A wee while back, I had the pleasure of taking part in a highly anticipated whisky tasting with as part of some (obviously very essential) staff training, hosted in the Maltings Coffee Shop at 🥃💧

I stumbled across the Birkentree brand somewhere out in the wild (a whisky exhibition a few years ago?) and had been following them on socials for a while.

I'm a huge advocate for letting people experiment with how they enjoy their whisky, and the science behind the flavours at different ABVs and temperatures. Aside from water, I was a little scared to be adding anything else to my whisky, unless it was in cocktail form, but I feel like Birken Tree Highland Birch Water is a sensible alternative to spring water.

It's natural, it's Scottish, and it pairs incredibly well with Scotch whisky.

I can't wait to experiment more with combining these two magical liquids together 🥃💧🌳🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Happy World Whisky Day 🥃 (featuring one of my favourites)

Man O'Words (unpeated) Single Cask Single Malt Whisky, fully matured in an STR ex-Red Wine cask. To me, this one tastes like wine gums as it has incredibly fruity and sweet berry notes. 🍇🍷

This whisky is one of the first I bought when I started to understand the variety on the market for me. Although this is a firm favourite for me, it's a single cask bottling, which has advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is the quality and exclusivity of the bottling, and the lack of doctoring as there's no added water, vatting or additives. The disadvantage is always going to be consistency, but I've tried a few bottlings of the STR from Annandale, and there's never been a cask released that I didn't like!
There's always a risk in falling in love with a single cask whisky that the next bottling just won't be the same. Luckily, Annandale Distillery have been pretty on point with my favourite so far 🥃

35 years - Pan Am Flight 103 🌹

On 21st December 1988, a total of 270 lives were lost, with countless more lives changed forever.

Today, myself and my mum paid our respects at the Lockerbie Air Disaster Memorial, on the edge of Lockerbie. Many floral tributes had already been laid; a lot of which had notes from individuals, families and colleagues all over the world. I was not alive to witness the tragedy, but have grown up hearing some of the stories about that day from family members who witnessed the disaster and its immediate aftermath.

There were many other people coming and going from the memorial during the time we were there. If this reaches anyone in any of the 21 nations who lost loved ones that day, please rest assured that respects were made for each and every individual, and that every flower we could see that had been blown by the strong wind was placed back respectfully.

We remember them always 🌹

❤️

Mary, Queen of Scots, was born in Linlithgow Palace, Scotland in 1542 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👑
Her mother, Marie de Guise, gave birth in Linlithgow Palace before having Mary baptised in the adjacentt Church of St Michael. Mary was only 6 days old when her father King James V passed away, and she in turn became the Scots monarch. Her mother later moved with her over to Stirling Castle, where she was crowned and where they would spend most of their time before Mary was sent to France.
Her story has grasped many over the years; myself included. I used to work as a costumed historian/reenactor when I was a student, and was lucky enough to have worked an event in Linlithgow Palace, and based myself in Stirling Castle...literally in Mary Queen of Scots' footsteps 👑
I also got to meet Rosemary Goring at
last year to attend a talk and book signing. This was when everyone realised how much of a geek I am 😅

Isle of Skye ☁️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛰️
Sorry for going silent in everyone on here for the past month or two. I have such a long list of posts to catch up with after a trip to the Highlands, Skye and Raasay...and maybe a few bottles of whisky to add to my collection because of it.
Looking forward to spamming everyone with more whisky/castles/history/scenery and updates soon 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥃🏰🏔️

⚡Crafty Distillery's 24SEVEN vodka comes in such a stunning bottle - I didn't have time to get good enough pictures to do this justice but the spirit inside is where the real treat is! Crafty Distillery uses local wheat and water to produce this incredible smooth Scottish vodka, before filtering it through coconut shell carbon 🌾💧🥥
This was bought as a father's Day gift for my dad so I will try to borrow the bottle back to get some pics of the amazing details on this bottle if he trusts me enough to give it back 🤫
