Today is Earth Day and at Natural Britain we are proud to have achieved our first year's commitment to measure, reduce and offset our carbon emissions. At Natural Britain we have set out to monitor the carbon impact of each of our trips and we display this figure next to every tour.

As signatories of Tourism Declares Climate Emergency, we have made a pledge to monitor our carbon emissions and look at ways of reducing our impact.

So today, , we are really proud to have created a 'grove' of trees as part of a re-wilding project in Scotland run by Trees for Life. We have committed to planting enough trees to cover around 150% of our carbon emissions in 2020 for both Natural Britain and The Adventure Connection we measured that we emitted approx 2,077 kg CO2e and will work hard to keep this figure low as travel returns.

Experience a great migration right here in Britain...

Did you know that the Isle of Wight is the last and first port of call for many migrating birds travelling to and from continental Europe?

Plan your own escape and join one of the UK's most prominent ornithologists, David Lindo, on this fascinating weekend break. Whether you are an enthusiastic birder or just want to witness this spectacle of nature, you'll explore little-watched migration hotspots to find out more about the birds and their epic journeys.

As well enjoying the island's quirky character and dramatic landscapes, you'll see some interesting birdlife and perhaps the mighty white-tailed eagle, re-introduced here in 2019.

Who are the team behind Natural Britain? Meet Mark....

Mark is the founder of Natural Britain and has been travelling the world for the last 40 years (30 of those being in the adventure travel industry). His aim is that Natural Britain will lead the way in promoting sustainable travel in the UK with many people thinking more about their environmental impact in our new normal.

He enjoys discovering places close to home and is very lucky to live close to the South Downs Way and keeps discovering new walks and pubs!

He's also a keen sailor so is often found on The Solent and along the south coast discovering hidden coves and enjoying coastal towns!

We are big fans of BBC Countryfile Extra at Natural Britain. Emily lives close to the Chilterns so really enjoyed last night and leaning about the hidden hill forts!

It’s worth buying a local guidebook and an OS map for local adventures once we can venture a little further than our immediate areas.

And watch this space for woodland activities in the Chilterns...

Have you set yourself a New Year challenge? Having an event in the diary is a great motivation to achieve our goals!

A weekend Skyrunning (yes that is a thing!) could be just the motivation required to keep going on those lockdown running routes and have a much needed short break in the diary!

If you dream of trail running in the mountains then check out these tips from our Skyrunning in Snowdonia host. Aim for the sky and book a trip with Dean in May.

It offers runners the opportunity to take their running to the next level, whilst experiencing spectacular scenery and....

Nature has become part of many people's lives and we are all appreciating the environment close to home more than ever. Are you spending more time in nature, listening more closely to birds and spotting wildlife close to home?

At Natural Britain we aim to showcase a selection of wildlife experiences throughout the British Isles. Did you know you can spot whales and dolphins off the Yorkshire Coast? Populations are increasing due to better fishing techniques and no whaling from our shores. And on the Isle of Wight you can spot White-Tailed Eagles which were reintroduced in 2019!

Happy New Year! Here's to a year of making up for lost holidays.

The Natural Britain team were pretty lucky in the summer travel window with trips to the Cotswolds, Wales, Devon, Dorset and Yorkshire. We all hope to explore more of the British Isles.

Where did you discover close to home in 2020? And what are your plans for 2021?

Here are our thoughts to inspire you in the year ahead:

2020 forced us all to either cancel or radically re-think their travel plans. International travel was curtailed for most of the year and we saw some bizarre patterns of travel emerging. Last-minute bookers waiting for corridors to appear and then jetting off by the plane-load to the sun; sun-worshi...

Today is the Winter Solstice and the shortest day of the year. So the days will be getting longer and brighter from now on so more time for adventures.

People mark the shortest day in many different ways, gathering at Stonehenge, lighting candles at home or for some intrepid adventurers an opportunity for a wild camp, a night hike or bike!

At Natural Britain we see this as the start of new opportunities for adventures in 2021 and with the next equinox being Spring we would love to hear how you like to mark a Solstice or Equinox!

18/12/2020

2021 is going to be the year we all get back to the adventures we have dreamed of during 2020!

Our selection of trips on Natural Britain are a great way to go on an organised weekend adventure. We do the research and find the best adventures around the British Isles from sea kayaking, river bugging, wild camping to gentler options such as foraging or easy cycles.

Our Carbon Impact labels are really making an impact and we've been working with .travel to calculate the emissions of our trips.

We can even see how each experience breaks down into 4 main areas. This means we can identify where changes can be made to reduce the impact of a trip.

This will be an ongoing project with all new experiences required to fill in the questionnaire when we start to feature them - currently, 90% of our experiences have the Carbon Impact Label.
