Inspired by a passion for the outdoors and outdoor living we set out to change the way people camp and in 2008 set up Long Valley Yurts. With just two 18ft Yurts our first site was at the beautiful National Trust campsite at Great Langdale. Not only is it a truly stunning and wild location but it also conveniently provided us with a name fo
r our endeavour with ‘Great Langdale’ being the Norse for Long Valley. So armed with two 18ft Yurts, a name and not much else we set out on our own journey of discovery………and what a fantastic journey it has been so far. Move forward twelve years and we are now one of the longest established glamping providers in the country! We work with fantastic partners in beautiful locations who help us to provide a memorable holiday away from it all. While all of our sites are off the beaten track they are still close to all the Lake District or Peak District has to offer. We now have sites close to Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater and Keswick in the Lake District and Bakewell in the Peak District. Some of our sites also now have glorious Scandinavian wood fire hot tubs and with more exciting additions planned for the future there is a lot to look forward to. Having helped pioneer this type of holiday experience we have now been joined by hundreds of other companies offering all manner of weird and wonderful types of accommodation. It has also led to the birth of a new word for the English dictionary with ‘Glamping’ being the byword for those seeking a ‘Glamorous Camping’ holiday. We are still passionate about the outdoors and outdoor living. We continue to camp and revel in all it’s glorious forms and remain convinced of it’s power to bring people closer, build lasting memories and to enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life. A rainy day is a great opportunity to catch up on a bit of reading. You can shut yourself away from the outside world (and your family, if you wish!) and spend a bit of alone time hunkering down with a good book. Whether you’re studying for an upcoming exam and need to catch up on any assigned chapters or you’re simply reading for fun, you can zip up your tent (or yurt) and escape from the bad weather outside for a few hours.

Our top activities whilst glamping or camping: bring out the board games 🎲
We highly recommend packing a deck of cards and a couple of board games for your upcoming camping trip - you never know when you might need them! Spend the afternoon cosying up inside your tent or yurt and get a friendly tournament on the go. You could set up multiple matches against different opponents and keep score on a master scoresheet. Just make sure you have a prize for the winner!

Our top activities whilst glamping or camping in the rain: go for a long walk 🥾
The sun is shining now - but if the weather forecast is looking a bit damp for your upcoming camping trip, we’d highly recommend packing some wet weather gear and going for a long walk regardless! As long as you have some good protection from the rain, you can still enjoy the wonders of the great outdoors. Trails and paths are likely to be quieter whilst everyone is sheltering inside, providing you with the perfect opportunity to explore at your leisure.

Things to do at Moss Howe Farm 🏕️
Our accessible, off-the-beaten-track campsite is quiet and secluded, set well away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Sit back, relax, read a book or cook up a culinary feast - the only limit is your imagination! The area has very little light pollution, making for the most spectacular stargazing opportunities. Sitting out under a starlit sky on a warm summer’s night with the flicker of flames from the campfire is the perfect pastime.
