A very honest post…

It’s been a tough few days! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Whilst visiting my wonderful, weather-cursed, home city of London, I managed to pick up some horrible virus that has left me fairly incapacitated and missing my flight back home to Ibiza.

Now I’ll tell you: running your own business is never easy (despite what some social media ‘influencers’ may say! 😅), but running one when you’re feeling the way I have is a serious challenge.

So what do I do as a ‘one woman band’ with various commitments you may wonder? (Especially if you’re an existing or potential client…)

Well, I keep going! But sensibly.

Now I’m not glorifying or promoting over working ourselves, because I think we all by now know that this is not healthy.

But I do take my commitments seriously.

In simple terms, this is what I have done:

-Continually monitored emails.
-Prioritised client enquiries, and delivered for any urgent needs
-Been strategic and realistic with energy and communicated any necessary delays with clients
-Stayed off of social media and given myself a mental break
-Left business development on the back seat whilst I heal
-Pushed back any meetings

At a time when I was celebrating my Conde Nast Traveler Specialist announcement and ready to steam ahead in my business, it’s been a tough pill to swallow but it’s also a good reminder that we are all human! And also that there’s no work I’d rather be doing when I’m sick than planning exciting adventures for my clients! ♥️

I’m going back to Africa 😍

Last November I finally took my first trip to Africa (Botswana & Zimbabwe) and fell deeply in love.

Just a few months later and my second trip to this incredible continent is already confirmed 🥰

Wellness: travel trend or more?

If I say the word wellness to you, what feelings arise?

Feelings of peace and happiness as you think of your fulfilling wellbeing practises?
A state of confusion over a new word that suddenly seems to be everywhere?
Or maybe even guilt.. at all the ideas you’ve had to take better care of yourself, knowing that they haven’t quite come to fruition.

To me, wellness is certainly more than a trend. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a dedication to both maintain and enhance your wellbeing, and an inspiration for fulfilling daily practises and travel experiences.

And this week I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be attending another travel conference completely dedicated to retreats and the growing wellness industry.

Island Hopping 🌴

Who doesn’t love a spot of island-hopping?
I certainly do.
So when I got a very special invite to the stunning , though Mykonos didn’t previously attract me - I knew this was one that I had to accept.

Initially I built a beautiful greek itinerary around the invite.
But since moving to Ibiza and minimising my travel plans, I decided that there was only one island I’d be hopping to this time - Mykonos. And it totally blew me away.

The moment I dreamed of….😍

Having spent winter in a mostly grey London (with a couple of warmer trips to Mexico and South of Italy), I really was longing for a true winter escape.
A chance to see the snow, and to enjoy its beauty from the comforts of an incredibly inviting spa. spa.

And let me tell you: it didn’t disappoint.
With floor to ceiling windows complimenting its indoor pool, a stunning panoramic outdoor pool and an equally impressive sauna and relaxation area; Alpina was the perfect place to revitalise and indulge you, especially after a long and tiring day on the slopes.

My hotel mini tour is now up on highlights for anyone that missed it.

My winter dream come true 🥰

I love a tropical winter getaway.
Some of you may already know my January tradition of swapping London for somewhere sunny (usually in Latin America).

But I also have a thing for snow.
For cozy winter vibes with cute mountain towns, red wine by the fire and my new love - snowboarding.

It wasn’t looking likely for this year but I MADE IT!
Just managed to sneak in a trip at the end of the season.

And my main reason for going was checking out two hotels that I’ve now fallen totally in love with.

Off the beaten track Japan 🇯🇵

So you may know about the famous snow monkey hot springs in Nagano but have you heard about the Onsen experience in Oita? And the region of Kyushu?

Affectionately named ‘a land full of energy ’, Kyushu is famous for its active volcanoes, endless Onsen (hot springs) and its lush greenery and coastlines.

After learning all about Kyushu at a recent industry event, it’s easily earned a place on my Japan hit list.
So what can you do in Kyushu?

-Sand bathing: Be buried in volcanic sand (sans head of course). An intense wellness treatment great for toxin removal
-Cycle the Yabakei gorge: Enjoy stunning scenery of cliffs and caves whilst you cycle this spectacular route (electric options available if you need a little help 🚴‍♀️)
-Try ‘hell steam cuisine’: Eat dishes cooked using the natural, mineral-laden steam of the land
-Island Hopping: Enjoy the beauty of Nagasaki with its blissful beaches and rich history
-Yabusame: Experience the ancient Japanese tradition of horseback archery - you can even have a go yourself (on a stationary horse for safety!)

Falling in love from afar ♥️

As someone who’d like to visit every country I’ll admit, though it’s easy for me to help clients decide where to go next, I do find it hard to pick and prioritise destinations for my own personal trips.

But there’s one country that’s creeping higher and higher up my priority list…

A country that tops the charts when it comes to culture, cuisine and diverse scenery. A country that the more I learn about it, the more I am falling in love with if from a far.

Hello again world ♥️

Looks like things are getting easier for UK travellers with no required testing for the fully vaccinated and removal of arrival quarantine for the unvaccinated.

2022: A year of worldwide adventures? It’s definitely starting to feel that way!

Both personally (making lists of new countries and places to visit)
And professionally (finally finishing up my website, organising site visits and launching my monthly newsletter), though we can never be certain in this crazy world - I’m feeling increasingly positive about the world travel situ once again!

An absolute design dream 😍

If you read my recent Tulum post or have visited yourself - you’ll know what a paradise this place is when it comes to Design.

From the fashion to the architecture, the combination of natural materials and neutral tones at every turn are almost mesmerising: like walking through a never ending exhibition of eclectic art that often incorporates the very best of sustainability.

Though I didn’t end up doing any shopping (it rarely happens on my trips), I did of course make time for some all important hotel viewings and I’m excited to share these beauties with you!

Though I don’t think it’s an island for everyone..
There’s plenty to love in Holbox.

A colourful, car free island with white sand beaches, a lively town centre and plenty of rustic charm, Holbox is becoming a popular choice for those seeking an authentic, lesser developed spot in the Yucatán peninsula.

Nicknamed graffiti island, it’s characterised by its many murals, its unpaved sandy streets and its backpacker meets bohemian vibes. It’s also known for excellent access to wildlife - though only at certain times of the year.

Life on Holbox is definitely simplistic.

With lazy days and balmy weather, limited wifi and a great selection of restaurants all within walking distance: Holbox is the place to go for both a digital detox and an authentic, laidback island escape.

Tulum: The definition of luscious living 🥰

A place where the jungle meets the sea, where wellness encompasses nature and where every bar, restaurant and beach club seems equally as inviting as the next.
From the artistic design to the never ending palms - in Tulum you will find beauty at almost every turn.

It’s not hard to see how quickly this place has grown and whilst some feel less than positive about its development from a rustic hideaway to a busy beachtown- there’s no denying Tulum is a touristic gem like no other.

As someone who prefers off the beaten track destinations, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this place. But after spending some time here I have to admit - I’ve fallen in love with Tulum in a way I wouldn’t have expected.

Why it deserves a spot on your bucket list… 🇲🇽

Oh Mexico, the land of Mezcal, Mayan ruins and Mariachi.
A country so diverse in both its landscape and its way of life.
A country that just keeps pulling you back.

There’s palm fringed beaches, luscious jungles and colonial mountain towns.
Taquerias, tequila tastings and chilli in just about everything.
You can surf the waves of the pacific, explore ruins in Palenque and learn about ancient indigenous traditions.
You can dance to the sounds of Mexican beats at the endless fiestas or relax and revitalise at one of Mexicos less famous beaches.

Mexico is full of gems. And though I didn’t make it to where I wanted this year, spending more time in the Yucatán Peninsula meant falling more in love with Tulum.
As a fan of more off the beaten track places, this part of Mexico will never be my favourite. But I believe beauty can be found almost anywhere. And I certainly found it in Tulum. More on this coming soon!

New year, new adventures ♥️

What do new adventures mean to you?

For me it typically meant seeing new countries…but these past couple of years have been a great reminder that new adventures can also be found in very familiar places.

Over new year I got to experience the popular Positano in a whole new light: quiet, peaceful and just a little bit cooler (swipe right for the summer snap ☀️). Soon I’ll be back in another of my favourite countries and though I’m desperate to check out some brand new countries and cultures, I’m also excited to be reunited with this beloved place and of course add a whole new twist….

I believe adventure is not just an experience but a mindset and something we have to cultivate, no matter how situations evolve around us.
