Will Cairns our founder had the idea in 2008 to combine his passion for cycling with his love of exploring and connecting with others to create an active travel company. Winter festivities are in full swing across the Cotswolds. From the famous Christmas Tree in the river at Bourton-on-the-Water to the buzz of Christmas Markets throughout the towns.

You can try ice skating at Blenheim Palace or watch your favourite Christmas movie in a twinkly Cotswold setting. Or perhaps you'd prefer to find a cosy pub with a roaring log fire and enjoy some traditional pub grub!

Many attractions run until the end of December. So get your skates on and revel in the joy of the Cotswolds at Christmas!

Alfred Wainwright famously said "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing” and our recent guests review proved that to be so true as they fully embraced our Cotswold Winter Walking Tour.

Full review: Storm Bert messed up commuters all across western England, but it only added fun to our daily commutes across The Cotswold on our Active England walking tour. Our guide Tatty had things all mapped out initially, but each day the elements didn't cooperate so we revised plans and found new and interesting paths. Thanks Tatty for being so creative and accommodating.

If you think it odd to do a walking tour in November, honestly, the lack of crowds at these summertime sights was great. We 'had the place to ourselves' (mostly) and that added even more to the positive experience. We dressed in layers, as any experienced outdoor folks would, and never felt the need to complain about the cool.

The Autumnal transformation is gradually sweeping across the UK. Throughout October fiery reds, yellows and burnt oranges take the place of the green summer leaves on the trees and foliage.

We think Autumn is a fabulous time to explore the UK but especially the Cotswolds! We've put together a suggested walking itinerary for an October day in the Cotswolds:
🍂Start the day with a fresh morning walk at Westonbirt Arboretum and head for the Acer Glade for some stunning Autumn colour.
🍂Grab a hot drink and head to Bourton-on-the-Water for lunch and a gentle stroll through the town.
🍂If you fancy walking some more, head on the well marked trail towards Lower Slaughter (1.5 miles) for some fantastic Cotswold views.
🍂End the day with some hearty British cuisine at The Slaughters Country Inn
