This bus connection is needed for seasonal visitors and the residents of Hayling to access this western end of Hayling Island and Ferry Point - the Ferryboat Inn, Sinah Warren, Sinah Lane and the Kench etc.

If the Councils want residents and visitors to do the right thing by using public transport, and avoiding the Langstone Bridge, then they need to support the ONLY alternative connection off the Island, to and from Portsmouth, with a joined up Stagecoach bus connection either side of Langstone Harbour.

At present the Portsmouth side is supported by the excellent Stagecoach 25 bus service - but on Hayling it involves a 2.4km walk from the Hayling Ferry terminal to the nearest bus stop at Staunton Ave to catch the Stagecoach 30/31 service on Hayling. That is unacceptable for anyone with mobility issues or families with small children. 🤔🤷‍♂️

INCREASING PEDESTRIAN & BIKE USE ON THE HAYLING FERRY
If the Hayling Ferry was subsidised and funded by the Govt and Councils - like the bus services are - then the Ferry fares could be reduced - especially as the Ferry can also carry 26 bikes at a time to support active travel.

Bizarrely the very Councils and Councillors that are arranging subsidies for the buses, to give reduced £2 and FREE bus fares, are also the same Councils and Councillors sitting on Langstone Harbour Board and voting through a 3 fold increase in LHB per passenger charges on the Ferry, that led to a 50p increase in Ferry fares in April 2024! No you couldn't make it up! 😡

Cllr Peter Candlish PCC - you may like to take note of this quite frankly absurd situation, when as PCC Transport portfolio holder - heavily promoting the use of public transport and bike use - you are also voting through increases in LHB charges that has created a £3.50 Ferry fare for cyclists and pedestrians - and discouraging the use of this lifesaver 300 metre connection to Portsmouth - the ONLY alternative to the Langstone Bridge.

The Ferry crossing turns a 14 mile car journey on the congested A3023 on Hayling, and Eastern Rd in Portsmouth, into a 300 metre bike crossing - surely that should be way up there on the PCC transport portfolio agenda?

Likewise Cllr Lance Quantrill, you have voted on LHB for the LHB increase in charges that increases Ferry fares - yet you are now campaigning for HCC, for greater bike use and walking on Hayling.

When are our Councils and Councillors going to to use some joined up thinking when recognising that the Hayling Ferry is the ONLY public transport on Hayling that supports both walking AND cycling - and is also the only public transport medium that reduces travel distance on Hayling to Portsmouth from 14 miles to 300 metres!

Come on HCC and PCC, start doing something constructive to support the Hayling Ferry connection to allow an increase in walking and bike use, rather than voting negatively for an increase in LHB per passenger charges that lead to increased Ferry fares!😡🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

As you cycle and walk around the Island please look out for any ways to improve your journey and to encourage others.

THE HAYLING FERRY

Baker Trayte Marine Ltd launched the new Hayling Ferry service on 5th August 2016. Wayne Sleep O.B.E and Faith Ponsonby, the Mayor of Havant, were Guests of Honour at the launch event. There was a massive turnout from the local communities both sides of Langstone Harbour, and showed the support and enthusiasm for the return of the service. The Hayling Ferry service runs Spring, Summer and Winter Timetables and extends its timetable as required to support special events in Portsmouth and Hayling Island.

The Pride of Hayling ferry is operated by qualified experienced skippers and is fully licensed by the MCA to carry 63 passengers. Baker Trayte look forward to welcoming you onboard the Hayling Ferry in the near future.
