We've not captured an image of Eastney and Hayling Island from this perspective and focal length before. It's such a beautiful part of our coastline. Having the facility to hop on the Hayling Ferry to get to either side is always fun!

Love Eastney 🤩

HAYLING FERRY 8TH ANNIVERSARY
Monday 5th August 2024 is the Hayling Ferry's 8th Anniversary. 🎂🍻🍾🥂

Eight years since that sunny Friday 5th August 2016, and the fantastic launch event at the Ferryboat Inn, set up by Mark Coates and Clare Buchanan & the Hayling Ferry Trust Team. With Wayne Sleep enthusiastically doing the honours of launching the new service with over 1,000 people in attendance - many thanks Wayne! ❤👌

All the good work of the Save the Hayling Ferry! FB group, and the Hayling Ferry Trust, came to fruition on that day with Baker Trayte Marine taking a leap of faith with the service under the fantastic stewardship of skipper Colin Hill.

Since then the Ferry has operated without fail. Through various issues regarding LHB fees threatening its future - through the problems thrown up by Covid.

In 2017 it won the award of Havant Small Business of the year - with Colin Hill awarded Greatest Contribution to the Community at the same awards. Brilliant!!!!!! 👏

Just to emphasise that the Ferry receives no public subsidy and never has - so without the continuing support of Hayling and Portsmouth residents and visitors, it will struggle to survive - so please keep doing what you are doing and make use of the Ferry and the excellent 3 minute connection it makes between Hayling and Portsea Islands - and the amazing bike route connection it creates with BIKES CARRIED FREE.

Thank you from all the team at the Hayling Ferry to all the passengers and residents who have supported the Ferry over those 8 years - we look forward to seeing you in our 9th year and for many years to come after that. 👏👌 ❤ 👍

NEW STAGECOACH 25 BUS TIMETABLE PORTSMOUTH
Effective Sunday 21/7/24

This is the new Stagecoach 25 Bus timetable that has triggered the new Hayling Ferry timetable - also effective Sunday 21/7/24.

Stagecoach have handily added the linking Hayling Ferry crossings into the timetable for easy journey planning.

The simple rule for connecting Ferries is that the Ferry departs Hayling pontoon 15 minutes before the scheduled 25 bus departure from the Eastney Lifeboat Station bus stop.

From Eastney, the Ferry departs Eastney pontoon 10 minutes after the scheduled arrival time of the 25 bus at the Eastney Lifeboat Station bus stop.

The Ferry crew obviously keep an eye out for the bus, and will make on-the-spot one off minor adjustments at the time if necessary, so that passengers aren't caught short.

The bus story is a long saga, and the Ferry still has ambitions to continue lobbying the Councils and Stagecoach to consider a bus connection on the Hayling side from the Ferryboat Inn bus stop.

Cost effectiveness is paramount though, and lessons from previous trials need to be taken on board if a viable solution is to be introduced in the future.

COMPLETELY NEW HAYLING FERRY TIMETABLE FROM 21/7/24
Late Service to 8PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays
New Stagecoach 25 Bus Service Timetable from 21/7/24

Please note the new Ferry timetable comes into effect on Sunday 21st July at 08:45 from Hayling.

The Ferry timetable change is to accommodate the new 25 bus service timetable, and better tie the Ferry arrivals and departures to a set pattern with the 25 bus schedule.

For crossings that link to the 25 bus, the Ferry will depart Hayling pontoon 15 minutes before the 25 bus scheduled departure from Eastney.

From Eastney pontoon the Ferry will depart 10 minutes after the scheduled 25 bus arrival time at the Eastney Life Boat Station stop.

The Ferry crew obviously keep a look out for the bus arrivals, so will be flexible within reason if required.

Finally, the Ferry will operate to 8pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays for the rest of the summer

A fantastic representation of the 'World according to the Hayling Ferry' - with the Hayling Ferry centre stage alongside the Hayling Pontoon. 😃👌

Just shows what a massive boon the Hayling Ferry service is in enabling that tiny 300 metre 3 minute crossing as an alternative to the tortuous 14 mile journey by road.

Get on your bike or e-bike, and really make use of this easy connection between the two contrasting communities of Portsmouth and Hayling. Bikes are carried FREE of charge on the Ferry.

8/6/24 - TWO THIRDS OF PASSENGERS TRAVEL BY BIKE! 👌
D-DAY 80 ARMED FORCES DAY - SOUTHSEA COMMON 🎗

Colin ran three shuttles across at 17:00 from Eastney yesterday to get these 70 cyclists back to Hayling who had travelled across earlier in the day. The Ferry route saved all these Hayling residents the 14 mile car journey to Portsmouth, and they were all easily accommodated on the Ferry over the 300 metre 3 minute Ferry crossing. Great way to travel too. ❤

This is where the future of the Hayling Ferry connection lies principally - as an Active Travel connection to and from Portsmouth.

It is already classed as part of Sustrans National Cycle Route 2 - but instead of proper funding as a cycle connection over recent years - it has been plagued by parochial Council finance issues with Langstone Harbour Board over the Landing Stages either side of Langstone Harbour. The Landing Stages for the Ferry are part of the cycle route, and need to be regarded as such by all the respective bodies involved.

The HBC Hayling Council team - Mark Coates, Paul Gray, Peter Oliver, Netty Shepherd, Wilf Forrow, and Jonathan Hulls - together with Peter Candlish, PCC Councillor for Eastney and Craneswater, and PCC Cabinet Member for Transport - need to collectively understand the challenges of the Hayling Ferry route, and get the proper funding and infrastructure in place to allow this route to flourish in the age of Active Travel. 🤔👍

Memories of bygone Portsmouth is a private settings group but I hope John doesn't mind us repeating this part of his post today - 6th June 2024 - 80 years after that day in 1944 when the liberation of Europe began on the beaches of Normandy.

LEST YOU SHOULD EVER FORGET 2015/16!
All our yesteryears! Just a reminder of how bleak it was 8 years ago at the end of 2015 - no Ferry running well into 2016 - and the recent history up to 2015 of it costing the Councils £70K-£80K a year in subsidies - £36K a year to support to the Ferry operator and £45K a year to Langstone Harbour Board.

Nowadays the Ferry operated by Baker Trayte, has run like clockwork for nearly 8 years without a single penny of taxpayer support!

The insult though for that cost saved to the taxpayer, is that the Ferry operator has been left to fund Langstone Harbour Board to the tune of over £120K over that period - funding that could build a reserve for a Ferry refit when the time comes - the cost of a refit put the old operator out of business in 2015 !

There is a new Council in Havant - and Portsmouth CC prides itself on supporting cycling , active travel, and public transport.

So let's have the new Council Administration at Havant BC, and the Lib Dem Administration at Portsmouth CC, make sure the Ferry is properly supported - NOT with subsidies for the the ferry operation itself - but by reducing the overhead they have to pay Langstone HB - the Board of which is made up of Councillors from Havant BC and Portsmouth CC.

Don't let 2015 ever happen again. It was awful without the Ferry - and it is so easy now to become complacent and take it for granted and end up again where we were in 2015/16 😥🤔

SUNDAY 28 APRIL - 13:00 TO 16:00 - SOUTHSEA COMMON
POMPEY LEAGUE ONE CHAMPIONS CELEBRATIONS

Great suggestion from Mark Coates - Hayling East for those who want to attend the Pompey celebrations today. Easy connection using the Hayling Ferry and then bike, bus, or Voi scooter / Beryl bike to Southsea Common - and no parking worries. 👌

The Tipner Portsmouth Park & Ride bus does NOT extend to Southsea so Ferry makes absolute sense as the easy no hassle way to get there! 👍

THE HAYLING FERRY

Baker Trayte Marine Ltd launched the new Hayling Ferry service on 5th August 2016. Wayne Sleep O.B.E and Faith Ponsonby, the Mayor of Havant, were Guests of Honour at the launch event. There was a massive turnout from the local communities both sides of Langstone Harbour, and showed the support and enthusiasm for the return of the service. The Hayling Ferry service runs Spring, Summer and Winter Timetables and extends its timetable as required to support special events in Portsmouth and Hayling Island.

The Pride of Hayling ferry is operated by qualified experienced skippers and is fully licensed by the MCA to carry 63 passengers. Baker Trayte look forward to welcoming you onboard the Hayling Ferry in the near future.
