These are wonderful and often undervalued climbing plants, fully hardy and very easy to look after. I have always loved clematis from an early age and gained my experience from helping clematis expert Colin Brown at his nursery in Beamish, County Durham, on an ad hoc basis for 13 years until he retired. Thereafter I decided to propagate my own as decent local clematis suppliers no longer existed.

I don't like Garden Centre prices and they generally only stock a limited number of varieties. One exception I can highly recommend is the specialist clematis supplier Taylors of Doncaster (https://www.taylorsclematis.co.uk) who supply a wide range of very nice, strong and healthy plants. I now only grow varieties that have stood the test of time and mistreatment! It can take about 3 years for most clematis to really do their stuff.`

I also grow a range of somewhat more unusual varieties of hardy perennials. I have occasionally listed plants, bare root perennials and seeds for sale on eBay, but, although fairly easy to list the items for sale, it can be a rather restrictive, time consuming and costly way to sell. I'm now working on a my own fledgling website: https://www.moongarden.co.uk/wp01/

With the current Covid19 restrictions I am operating a local delivery service only for the counties of Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. I hope to be updating this page with any news or interesting information - but this might not be so frequent when I'm looking after the plants and garden during the growing season - also outside the main growing season; with gardening there are always lots of jobs to do 12 months of the year! ;-)

Thank you for taking an interest.

15th July 2024. Feels like it's rained nearly every day since last July 2023! Noah is currently stowed out with boat orders... 😜 Anyway, there's still some signs of life in the saturated (and very much neglected 😥 ) Moongarden... 👍🤞

Remember guys you can Phantom Plant any type of potted fruit tree this time of year.
I always recommend its well rooted in the pot and depending how big it is, it might need staked.

Turn your street into a garden of Eden, make your doorstep an urban orchard, there has never been more of a time that we need to be positive and boost community morale.

The land is ours, if you use any green space out the front of your home for the greater good and maintain it, common sense planting, be aware how big it will grow, where fruit will fall etc no one will have a problem.

Any land you see thats not being maintained, overgrown with no boundary hedging or gate etc is commons land, that means it can be claimed for the greater good, its our land!

How do you think the travelers get away with what they do, they just brass neck it and no one can do a thing, they even pay them to move!

Ive been approached many times by people giving off about me planting, I just brass neck it too, tell them its a communal fruit tree for the community and if youve got a problem I'd like your reason in writing signed why you dont want community fruit trees to feed the homeless and educate our kids.

That gets them a bit, what sort of excuse can they really come up with for that!
Ive yet to receive a letter or get told not to do it, would make a nice article for the paper.

But most of the time if you contact the local council grass cutter and tell him youve planted a communal fruit tree or a memorial tree and that you'll be maintaining it they are cool.

Plant first ask later, nature does not ask permission to sow a seed and neither does a squirrel....

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission!

I had a fruit tree planting charity before and one of the main reasons why I set up the Phantom planter is the hoops I had to jump through just for planting trees and the same silly questions I got asked time and time again, it stole any sort of positive energy I had to offer and was a big test to my Buddhist nature.

I have planted 1000s of trees and im still waiting on an answer back from a council for the planting of 10 trees in a park, that was 5 years ago.

Im not one for hanging around and neither should you, its all or nothing!

Lets face it guys, we need good natural food, our kids need to know where our food comes from and our world is in desperate need of trees and love.

Your only planting a tree, making your home a better place, who would have a problem with that!

Peace and love!

I challenge you to phantom plant a tree! Anywhere, anytime, any place.....

Bumped into this dude a few weeks ago and I stopped and helped him out erecting a sign saying wildflowers dont cut yet, which seemed to have worked btw as the council have left this verge alone and then again yesterday I was driving by and there he was keeping the edges of the verge tidy cutting the grass!

What a dude, the world needs more like him, he was showing me all the different wildflowers thats beginning to grow, he had a list on him of 18 different species of native wildflowers that grow naturally if we leave grass alone!

We all need to start contacting our local councils requesting they leave these verges alone or just to cut the edges as this dude was doing, it's so important for nature and all its creatures and I think it looks way better having natural meadows at the side of the roads too!

Peace and love!

I challenge you to phantom plant a tree! Anywhere, anytime, any place.....

Autumn acers... this is a green-leaved acer grown from seed by me 20 years ago. It changes colour every day in autumn, from deep purple to a final vivid scarlet before dropping it's leaves - usually the leaves all vanish overnight, especially if there is heavy rain or strong winds!

Mid-April and It's so cold! Everything is well behind compared to last year. But the plants in the cold frames are finally starting to show some signs of life, even if they're also a little slow due to the sub-zero temperatures we've been experiencing regularly since January. ❄️❄️❄️
