Undoubtedly one of the most visually stunning temples in Thailand, Wat Sirindhorn Wararam is often referred to as the ‘Glow Temple’ and is outfitted with a palette of luminescent hues which transform the site into a celestial masterpiece.

The contrasting motifs represent the elements – with one side exhibiting the amber, candle-lit warmth of fire and the opposite embellished with noctilucent (glowing) stones woven in intricate patterns and emanating a surreal blue hue to convey water.

Established in 1964, Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre was the first centre in the world to dedicate itself to the rehabilitation of orangutans. The centre’s primary mission is to provide a safe haven for orphaned and injured orangutans.

Odyssey World have been supporting the Orangutan Appeal UK foundation for many years, offering travellers to Borneo the chance to make their own adoption prior to visiting the sanctuary.

Their valiant efforts in elevating Borneo’s ecological landscape have not gone unnoticed.

If you want to find out more about these initiatives, visit our Be There page, and if you’re interested in an overview of orangutan-spotting opportunities in Borneo, read our latest feature (🔗 in comments)!

Explore our favourite wildlife hotspots in Sabah with fellow wildlife enthusiasts and orangutan fans on this 10-night small group adventure!

Get up close to our orange cousins at the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, visit turtle conservation area, search the river banks for pygmy elephants and trek to waterfalls and mud volcanoes deep in the lush rainforest to find mammals, monkeys, and birdlife.

We strongly encourage traveling to Borneo outside of the peak northern hemisphere summer school holidays to find fewer people, better availability, peaceful wildlife experiences and significantly lower airfares.

Many of our tours to Bali incorporate a stay in Spa Village Resort, Tembok, a charming and rustic accommodation that draws from age-old Balinese traditions. In keeping with their ethos of authenticity, the establishment actively engages in a range of initiatives that endeavour to uplift local communities.

One such program is the sponsorship, funding and training of dancers from Tembok Village who specialise in the traditional Kecak Dance – a mesmerising performance rooted in the Hindu epic Ramayana, which depicts dramatic battles using fire and elaborate garments.

Such performances are sacralised in the surrounding villages, and the dancers are subsequently invited to perform at the hotel twice a month. This gesture helps locals retain the spirit of their community and its cultural significance.

To find out more about the ways our tours support local communities, wildlife, and the environment, check out our Be There page (🔗 in bio) to explore our various sustainability initiatives.

The Marble Caves of Chile are a spectacular sight - sporting the appearance of carved ice, the caves reflect the azure turquoise colours of the glacial water, creating an almost abstract, yet beautiful scene that would strike envy into any artist.

Far from any road, the location of the caves is particularly remote and requires a boat to access – carved into the Patagonian Andes, the caves are located on a peninsula of solid marble bordering Lake General Carrera, a remote glacial lake that spans the Chile – Argentina border.

Nature’s very own inspiration for the wingsuit worn by base jumpers, the doe-eyed sugar glider makes it all the more adorable!

These furry flying creatures have a very unique body – after launching themselves into the air, they spread their limbs to engage the ‘gliding membrane’, acting like a parachute allowing them to drift through the air for up to 50 metres!

“If Earth’s biodiversity were a country, it could be called Colombia”, wrote National Geographic seven years ago, and this claim is incontrovertibly buoyed by the figures: home to almost 9,000 endemic species – there are more species of birds and orchids than any other nation in the world, second in the number of plants, amphibians, butterflies and freshwater fish, third for palm trees and reptiles, and fourth in its overall mammalian diversity.

The prospect was so attractive that Odyssey World MD, Felicia, spent 5 weeks there at the end of 2021, testing out the appeal for digital nomads and proving that a remote business can be run from anywhere. “After being ‘locked down’ for so long, I wanted to go somewhere that thrilled and scared me a little. But what I found in Colombia was an absolute treasure. Colour and life is abundant, and there appeared to be a constant celebration of just being alive".

Our best-selling and one of our most exciting destinations, Borneo is a paradise of lush rainforests, exceptional wildlife and warm hospitality. Visitors are enthused to witness the iconic orangutans in the flesh, cruise the diverse Kinabatangan River and bask in the serene beaches of Gaya Island.

With all that in mind, it’s imperative that our tours and getaways are giving back to the community in some way. Luckily, The Ulu Ai Conservancy has just embarked on two projects with WWF and WCS with the sole aims of diversifying and improving the livelihoods of locals in rural communities, providing lucrative employment options for women and advocating for the stringent conservation of rainforests and wildlife.

By supporting these initiatives, we have the power to preserve and protect what makes Borneo so special, ensuring it retains its splendour for generations to come.

The remarkable langur is smaller than most primates, with males only reaching around 25 inches in length, but they more than make up for it in character – typically bold, curious and gregarious, these primates are known for their vocalisations, including alarm calls.

Known as Old World monkeys (originating from a common ancestor around 30 million years ago), langurs are leaf-eating monkeys that belong to the subfamily Colobinae. While many species of langur are found in various regions of Asia, such as India, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia, there are a select few specifically endemic to Borneo and Sumatra.

Famed for its incredible wildlife, Botswana is home to the diverse ecosystems of the Kalahari Desert and Okavango Delta. Travellers flock to see the Big 5 and stay in luxury lodges and 5-star camps. Housing such a pristine natural environment is no easy task, and its preservation is of utmost imperative.

Thankfully, the camps and lodges run by our ground partners, Delta Safaris, have achieved the highest status recognised for sound sustainable tourism initiatives, having transitioned to fully renewable energy across the board – this includes the usage of grey water treatment plants, advanced waste management & sewage treatment, sustainable building materials, reverse osmosis for drinking water and the eradication of single-use plastic bottles.

Moreover, a cutting-edge solar plant was built at Camp Okavango – primed to soak up the searing rays of the savannah, this eco-friendly energy system provides the camp with enough energy to eliminate the need for additional generation.

If you want to find out more about how Botswana is contributing their bit to sustainability initiatives, check out our Be There page (🔗 in bio)!

Ornamented with two elongated feathers that dance in the wind as it flies, the Marvellous Spatuletail certainly lives up to its name.

These unique ‘spatules’ can be up to three times the length of the bird’s body and sway in a striking, figure-eight pattern as the male of the species performs elaborate and energetic dances to attract a mate.
