'Go Cruise with Chatterley's' is owned by Marie & Garry Ratcliffe. Marie has worked in the travel industry for over 20 years, working her way up to Customer Services Manager and then Branch Manager of a well- known large Travel Agency chain and now runs the business with her husband Garry who has recently retired. They have travelled the world, some of their favourite places being Australia, Canad

a and the Caribbean, but have fallen in love with the world of cruising. They have experienced the sunrise from a private balcony as they sailed into the magnificence of Venice, looked out over the breath-taking architectural wonder of Dubai from the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, and stood in awe gazing at the ruins of the Colosseum in Rome. They have cruised as a couple, with groups of friends and as a family and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. Both are ‘foodies’ and adore the variety and quality of the gourmet delights that await you on board. There really is something for all tastes and love the fact that you can have a quiet, romantic table for two or, if the mood takes you, you can join with friends (or indeed make lots of new friends) on a larger table. If haven’t cruised before..... WOW, you’re in for an amazing experience that will have you wanting more!! "We pride ourselves on our friendly, personal customer service which we believe, and hope to prove to you, is second to none. We are unlike any travel agency or call centre in that we are available to discuss your plans all day and evening, 7 days a week and, Heaven forbid, if you were to have an emergency during your holiday, we are on hand 24 hours a day to help resolve it. We offer to come to you to discuss any and all aspects of your holiday in the comfort of your own home or, if you prefer, we will conduct our business by phone or email ensuring that we find the perfect cruise to fit your dreams. We treat our customers as we would like to be treated ourselves and will be with you every step of the way; from the exciting part of choosing your holiday, ensuring you receive your confirmation and tickets, being on hand ‘just-in-case’ and welcoming you home from your cruise. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing our love of all things cruising"

Loved our first visit to the beautiful town of Ulvik. Often called the ‘Pearl of Norway’ it is nestled in the heart of Norway’s most fertile fruit growing region, earning it the nickname of ‘Orchard of Norway’ 🍎
Plenty of shore excursions to choose from again today, but we chose the Hardangerfjord by Rib which was both thrilling and exhilarating 😍 Another beautiful setting and the weather was glorious! After sailing on the King of Fjords yesterday, Hardangerfjord is known as the Queen of the Fjords and is the world’s third longest fjord. We will cruise by the sprawling Furebergsfossen Waterfall later this afternoon which is fed by the melting ice from a nearby glacier and cascades down from a height of 150m.
We’ve seen such fantastic scenery on this cruise and had some amazing experiences. Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines are all about scenic cruising and fabulous small ship itineraries and this cruise really has lived up to that. Two days at sea now before arriving home in Southampton on Thursday 🥰🛳️

One of our favourite ports in the world today, Flåm 😍 If you are coming here the Flåm Railway is a must-do, but as we’ve been here before and already taken the journey on the Flåmsbana, we decided to kayak in the UNESCO-Listed Naerøyfjord, one of National Geographic’s top Natural Heritage Sites. I’ve never kayaked before and what a fabulous experience it was! I LOVED IT!! Just goes to show you’re never to old to try something new 😁 🥰
This evening we sail back out of Flåm down the Sognefjord, nicknamed The King of Fjords, it’s Norway’s largest and deepest fjord and the second largest in the world! You just can’t get enough of the magnificent beauty of the Norwegian Fjords 🛳️🏞️

First port of call today after sailing down the breathtaking Lysefjord yesterday afternoon with its beautiful waterfalls and cliff faces over 1000m high. At the entrance to the fjord is the Lysefjordbrua suspension bridge, which due to low clearance means only smaller ships are able to pass under it.
Haugesund is a lovely city with plenty of shops and places to visit on shore excursions. After 2 days on the ship, we decided to take the 5 mile round trip walk to the Haraldshaugen Monument where it’s believed that King Harald Hårfagre, the first Viking King of Norway, is buried. Flåm tomorrow and a first for me……kayaking 🫣

We embarked on Fred.Olsen’s beautiful Borealis in sunny (and hot!!) Southampton this morning and what a gorgeous ship! Very impressed with everything we’ve seen and the staff are so happy and accommodating.
We have a Junior Balcony Suite and even though this is very similar in size to a Deluxe Balcony cabin with most of the other cruise lines, the extras you get with the ‘Suite Dreams’ package are fantastic! Priority check-in, sparkling wine and fruit bowl in the cabin on arrival, bathrobe and slippers, daily canapés, umbrellas and more……!
Here’s a few photos of our cabin and we’re hoping to send some updates on each port of call 🛳️🥰

Wonderful day in Rotterdam after the lovely Aurora docked here first thing this morning. We’re here for 2 days so went walkabouts to find the stunning Markthal. From the outside you can see the 228 apartments but it’s the inside that has the WOW factor! The Markthal ceiling is so beautiful that it's been given the nickname 'the Rotterdam Sistine Chapel’, while others refer to it as the 'largest artwork in the world'. It’s home to 96 fresh food stalls and shop units, ranging from Rotterdam based businesses and market vendors to established local heroes. They offer a diverse range of products: from fresh fish to fajitas, from coffee to cheese and from local favourites to exotic cuisine; Thai, Indian, Chinese, you name it, it’s likely to be here!
We decided on Greek street food and it didn’t disappoint 🥰
Off to Sindhu tonight, to celebrate Garry’s birthday, before another day exploring this lovely city 🛳️

Congratulations to Marie for making the GoCruise top achievers for the 3rd year on the trot🥂. This year’s treat is a 4 night sailing to Amsterdam on the Queen Victoria.

I’m sad to say that our amazing adventure is now over and we disembarked in Athens this morning. We didn’t post from Kavala or Thessaloniki as we didn’t get off the ship in those ports with them being huge towns/cities which appealed to shoppers but not us. We decided to take advantage of an almost empty ship and laze around the pool in the glorious sunshine 🌞🍸🍹
Yesterday, our last port of call was the Greek island of Syros. We were supposed to sail into Mykonos but were advised by Azamara, two weeks before we sailed, that due to there being another 8 ships booked into the tiny port, totalling 14,000 cruise passengers, they had chosen to take us to the next island which was just as pretty AND we were the only ship there. What a fantastic decision that was - well done Azamara!
Syros was a lovely port with lots of tempting cafes and restaurants as well as shops and places to swim. As usual, there were a lot of excursions on offer to see the whole of this stunning island.
We were sad to leave this wonderful ship and can honestly say that it’s one of the best cruises we’ve had. The staff were truly outstanding and the food, which is one of the most important thing to us, was superb. Azamara’s fleet of four ships are all about offering intimate, luxury cruises that offer a more in-depth experience in the destinations they visit and their small size lets you travel to places less visited that the bigger cruise lines can’t get to.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Azamara to our customers so if you’d like more information about this up-scale cruise line, and the itineraries they offer, please do not hesitate to give us a call on 01695 624444 😍🛳

We were looking forward to visiting Santorini, but know that it’s an extremely popular, busy port with lots of cruise ships dropping anchor there. With that in mind, we’d booked a shore excursion sailing the Caldera of Santorini. We were tendered ashore and then boarded a traditional Greek sailing vessel known as a Kaika. Caldera comes from the Spanish word for Cauldron, which is a perfect word to describe the area as we were actually sailing in the immense crater of a drowned volcano, the result of a monumental volcanic eruption over 3500 years ago whereby sea water flooded the volcano. We also got the opportunity to jump off the ship and swim into the hot springs (which we did) and smear ourselves with the mineral filled mud (which we didn’t!😳😂) followed by traditional Greek mezes and wine.
There are lots of other shore excursions to choose from, but the most popular choice was to either walk up the winding stepped path, take the cable car or ride on a donkey up to Firá at the top of the cliffs, you can see this in the photo below with the Greek flag. Firá is the capital of Santorini and a lovely town, but for the iconic picture postcard views of Santorini you needed to travel (by various methods) to Oia, famous for its stunning sunsets.
There were big queues for the cable car, and we wouldn’t dream of taking a donkey ride (it made me so sad to see them 😢), so we were glad to have booked our 3 hour sailing excursion.
White night that evening was such a fabulous evening. Almost everyone had made the effort to dress in white, the buffet was the most amazing I think I’ve ever seen, and with live music and dancing out in the pool deck all night it was one of the best nights of our Azamara cruise so far 😍

06/08/2023

Yesterday’s port of call was the stunning Greek island of Patmos at the northern end of the Dodecanese chain of islands. Due to its lack of an airport, with access by ferry or hydrofoil no easy task, Patmos remains off the beaten track and is how you picture a typical idyllic Greek island with a very laid back and timeless ambience.
Just 13 square miles, the island has over 300 churches, roughly one for every ten inhabitants! The Grotto of St. John is where the disciple is said to have composed the Book of Revelation during his years of exile in the first century A.D. In 1999 the town of Chorá, with its beautiful old windmills, and the Monastery of St. John (built in 1088) joined the ranks of World Heritage Sites.
Leaving the island as the sun went down made for a breathtaking sail away before yet another superb meal onboard Azamara Onward.
Santorini today followed by White Night…..😍

Yesterday we sailed into Kuşadasi, our last Turkish port of call. It’s been 31 years since we were last here and we didn’t recognise anything!
Kuşadasi is the Turkish Aegean’s most popular cruise ship port but luckily we were the only ones here. It’s a busy, vibrant port all about sun, sea and fun……not forgetting the bazaars where you can buy ‘genuine fake’ EVERYTHING!
After a stroll around the town, trying to evoke memories, we wandered across the 350 metre-long causeway, built in the 1950’s, to Pigeon Island where the remnants of a 13th-century Byzantine fortress sits on a cliff. This is a pretty little place with a fascinating history and a walkway winding between endemic trees, plants and protected flowers.
Last night we were treated to our AzAmazing evening and it was just that! After an early dinner, we were taken on a 20 minute drive to Ephesus where Azamara had exclusively reserved the historical Odeon Theatre (built in the 2nd Century A.D.) for their guests to enjoy a magical evening listening to members of the Aegean Chamber Orchestra’s repertoire of classical music. As dusk fell and the ancient ruins lit up, it felt surreal and the atmosphere was one I’ll never forget. It gave me goosebumps thinking of past concerts and events performed in this exact spot and the pictures definitely don’t do it justice. Azamara certainly delivered a once-in-a-lifetime experience for their guests 🎶😍⛴

We sailed into the picturesque Turkish town of Çeşme today. The name Çeşme in Turkish means ‘fountain’ and there are several Ottoman fountains scattered across the town.
Overlooking the harbour is Çeşme Castle, a restored military fortress and tourist attraction, but it was just too hot today to explore it, 35 degrees at 11am and due to get hotter ☀️
The area has 29km of stunning shoreline with golden, sandy beaches and the sea is a truly beautiful turquoise colour, due to the thermal water bubbling from within. Çeşme is also ranked among the world’s top 5 surfing resorts.
The town has a museum and many historic buildings including a 16th century Caravanserai, built by Suleiman the Magnificent to mark the end of the Silk Road.
There’s plenty for shopping fans, from designer boutiques in the marina shopping centre to bustling market stalls selling everything from clothes to carpets.
Çeşme is a gorgeous resort town and would be a fabulous place to stay and explore on a longer holiday, but for us it’s back to the delightful Azamara Onward 😍⛴

Having a fabulous time onboard Azamara Onward but it is hot, hot, HOT! ☀️
Formerly Pacific Princess, this is an elegant small ship that holds around 700 passengers and is currently sailing with just over 400. She is 24 years old, but Azamara have spent millions of dollars revamping its public spaces to give them a new, contemporary and upmarket feel.
Azamara’s boutique-style cruising offers unique, ‘destination immersion’ itineraries with late evening departures in most ports. Like other ships of its size, Azamara Onward offers an intimate experience with uncrowded spaces and her size means you can sail into charming small port towns that are off limits to bigger vessels. Each voyage features an AzAmazing Celebration….more to come on Friday about ours….and a White Night deck party ☺️
We set sail yesterday from Istanbul, after an overnight stay in port, and are currently docked in the Turkish town of Kepez, on the North coast of the Aegean Sea. A complimentary shuttle bus takes you to the adjacent city of Canakkale, but tbh there’s not much to see here apart from a replica of the Trojan horse, which is the actual one used in the 2004 film TROY featuring Brad Pitt!
The Captain of our ship actually told us that this not the best place to visit, BUT it’s the nearest port to explore the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site of Troy, which is open to the public as a tourist destination. We didn’t join the shore excursion here as we thought it was far too hot to sit on a coach and wander through the ruins in temperatures nearing 40 degrees 🥵😂 Instead we had a little stroll around the harbour and then got back onboard our lovely ship for lunch and a spot of sunbathing around the pool….cheers everyone! 🍸🍹

05/06/2023

Our last port of call yesterday was a first for us, Belfast. We visited the Titanic Museum in the morning which was absolutely fabulous, very moving and well worth a visit. Included in the entry fee was an opportunity to visit the SS Nomadic, which was one of the two tender ships that took passengers to the Titanic, and the last surviving vessel of the White Star Line. We also walked a short way up the river to see the HMS Caroline which is over 100 years old and is the last floating survivor of the Battle of Jutland.
After a superb roast lamb Sunday lunch back on board (which even had a Yorkshire pud 🤤) we got the shuttle bus into the city centre for a little wander around the city.
It was our 35th anniversary, and coincidentally it was also Ponant’s 35th a couple of days before, and a stunning bouquet of flowers and a fruit basket were delivered to our stateroom which was a lovely surprise. The waiters also served us champagne at breakfast and brought us a special dessert after dinner, accompanied by a song 🥰
We’ve disembarked in Greenock near Glasgow this morning and were sad to leave this truly amazing ship. We’ve had some fantastic times, with great friends, and would thoroughly recommend Ponant for an extra special cruise with unique itineraries. The staff onboard were outstanding, the ship was small, modern and elegant with exquisite decor and the food was delicious, very French, but with an alternative menu to appeal to a more British taste offered every day.
If anyone is interested in a cruise with Ponant and would like more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch on 01695 624444 😊

03/06/2023

We sailed into Dublin yesterday, but as we’d been there a few times we decided to spend our day chilling and sampling the many delights of our ship.
Today, our second Irish port of call is Warrenpoint, which to be honest we’d never heard of. We found out that it’s actually famous for the Warrenpoint ambush in 1979 where 18 British soldiers were killed on the same day that Lord Louis Mountbatten was assassinated.
Warrenpoint is a lovely little seaside resort, with the friendliest of locals, set in stunning natural surroundings on the shores of Carlingford Lough, a fjord marking the eastern end of the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
After a walk along the coastline and through the charming town centre, we got back on board to have lunch in the sun at the back of the ship with the most beautiful views. The chefs cook out here every day, weather permitting, and we’ve had everything from saffron & chorizo risotto, pasta dishes, a bbq with steak, chicken & pork ribs to today’s offering of made-to-order burgers, absolutely delicious. For those not wanting to dine outside, the restaurant offers a wider choice of amazing dishes for a three-course lunch.
After a couple of hours in the sun I’ve left Garry in the lounge with a beer and the footy, what more could a man want….🍺⚽️

02/06/2023

St Mary’s, the largest of the five inhabited islands in the Isles of Scilly, was our port of call yesterday. We anchored at sea again and a cute little local boat, the Seahorse, was our transportation to take us ashore, or on excursions.
We chose to take the Garrison Walk which was a fascinating insight into the history of the islands with fortifications dating back to the late 1500’s. We followed this with a walk around Hugh Town, which is the main shopping area for the islands.
Other passengers visited, and raved about, the world-class botanical Abbey Gardens on the island of Tresco, described as a paradise planted amidst the ruins of a Benedictine priory.
There’s so much to see in the Isles of Scilly that a day here just isn’t enough. Each island has its own distinct charms so island-hopping would be a great way to explore this beautiful part of England 😍
Next we’re off to three ports of call on Emerald Isle……..☘️

01/06/2023

Yesterday we sailed into the charming little town of Dartmouth on the banks of the River Dart’s estuary. A fairly chilly and cloudy morning was followed by glorious sunshine which let us see this gorgeous port at its best. After visiting Bayard’s Fort Cove, the beautiful church of St.Saviour and wandering past half-timbered houses and pubs dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, we headed back to our ship for an al-fresco lunch, a little siesta and a bit of sunbathing followed by a dip in the beautiful pool 🌞
Following a delicious 5 course dinner we had drinks in the Blue-Eye. This amazing venue has two eye shaped windows set into the hull with underwater views and a sound system that lets you hear marine life outside the ship. Our waiter convinced us that the best place to experience this is the Seychelles so we need to start saving up now 😂 Onto our next port of call, the Isles of Scilly……..😍

31/05/2023

Well what an amazing experience we had embarking Ponant’s Le Champlain on Monday. We checked in at a floating pier on the Thames before being tendered over to the HMS Belfast (commissioned in 1939) where we got off and walked across her to board our ship. That night, in what’s probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience, we felt very privileged to have London’s Tower Bridge raised for us to sail under, watched by hundreds of waving tourists. It was truly the best sail out EVER! 🤩
Le Champlain, one of Ponant’s ‘Explorer Ships’, is absolutely beautiful with just 92 staterooms, a multi-sensory lounge-the Blue Eye, and the latest technologies to limit the impact on the environment. The staff are outstanding and the food (and wine 😉) so far has been wonderful, French gastronomy at its finest!
Tuesday was spent sailing along the Jurassic Coast. Stretching more than 150km, the ‘Pearl of Dorset’ is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its geological interest with white chalk cliffs, stunning beaches and gigantic rock formations. In the evening, as the sun was setting, we slowly sailed around the glorious Isle of Wight and raised our glasses at the Captain’s welcome party 🥂🍾
We’ve sailed into Dartmouth this morning under cloudy skies but with a promise of sunshine later…….. ☀️
