(16)

Holiday Cottages in Pembrokeshire: The cottages Ty Draw and Glowty are imaginative and successful conversions from barn and cowshed, offering luxurious, spacious and tranquil accommodation in a stunning location, making the most of the uninterrupted views. The perfect getaway/retreat to which many visitors return year after year. Set in 20 acres, the cottages have access to the Coastal Path (5 min

ute walk through own fields), and the most spectacular panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean; Strumble Head; the Preseli Hills; Milford Haven; St Brides Bay; Skomer Island; Ramsey Island; and St David’s Head. The cottages are at the end of a lane in the small hamlet of Treleddyd Fawr, which has just 12 houses. Situated on St David’s Peninsula (in the UK’s only Coastal National Park), the area has a mild climate warmed by the Gulf Stream, and is an ideal holiday destination which can be enjoyed all the year round. This is an area steeped in magic, myth, history, castles and ancient monuments. In spring it is covered with a carpet of wild flowers and remains tranquil even in the height of summer. Autumn brings the seal pups which can be seen in the bays accessed from coastal path via the fields behind the cottages, whilst a mild winter climate offers wide, empty beaches. With spectacular sunsets and scant light pollution, you can enjoy the night sky in all its magnificence. The cottages provide an ideal base for a relaxing retreat or a full-on activity holiday, whether you choose walking; bird watching; cycling; fishing; golfing; coasteering; surfing; or just to cosy up with a Welsh woollen blanket and a good book. This is a place where you can enjoy the best in sandy beaches; craggy coves; rock pools; breathtaking views and an amazing array of work by local artists as well as the culinary delights of Pembrokeshire. St Davids, with its 12th century cathedral and Bishops Palace, is 1.7 miles away. It has a large National Parks Tourist Information centre, art galleries, craft shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes as well as Post Office, supermarket, chemist, fishing tackle and clothes shops. We appreciate that your holiday is special, please ask if there is anything we can do to assist.

Yesterday at Newgale beach, our lifeguards rescued 6 people and assisted a further 8 from rip currents.

The combination of surf, wind and tide moving over the sandbanks at low tide caused flash rip currents to appear.

The location of flash rips can change every day and are impossible to predict. We dynamically assess the beach and move the flags accordingly.

If you find yourself caught in a rip current:
🌊don’t try to swim against it or you’ll get exhausted
🌊if you can stand, wade don’t swim
🌊if you can, swim parallel to the shore until free of the rip, then head for shore
🌊always raise your hand and shout for help

The counts are in! We're very pleased to announce that this year's Puffin number on Skomer Island is 41,605.

Whilst this is slightly down on last year's record total, we aren't concerned about this - we normally aim for 2-3 counts in early spring, but they have to be done on still, sunny days. Anyone from this part of Wales knows we haven't had many of those days in the wet March and April we've had and as such we only managed one count this spring. The good news from this is that the total is quite probably a lot higher than the final count as more have arrived in the last few weeks!

We're very pleased that the island remains a stronghold for this vital, charismatic seabird species and we are proud that we can continue to safeguard their longevity on the island for years to come.
