Totus are at it again!!

This year on 12th July our team of intrepid challengers will be undertaking the immense task of scaling the combined elevation of 3 of the most famous summits – Mount Everest, K2, and Mount Kilimanjaro a total of 23,354m! To complete this task, Team Totus will be trekking up and down Brown W***y on Bodmin Moor, the highest point in Cornwall, 170 times. With a team of just 7 people, this will require each person to cover the distance of a marathon; ascending and descending at least 24 times.

All donations this year will go to the very deserving Morvargh Sailing Project, a youth development organisation that helps young people become more confident, more resilient, more motivated, and better able to communicate through volunteer led, life-changing sail training voyages.

All Go Fund Me donations would be greatly received by both Morvargh and Totus. Please follow the link below:

Last week Totus presented a workshop to a group of current Sixth Formers at Coombe Dean School in the hope that we would inspire future Engineers into our industry.

They all actively joined in during the practical section, giving them a taste of some simple tasks that our Engineers carry out.

Thank you for allowing Totus to be a part of your Careers Day.

Thank you to all our clients who have completed our Customer KPI forms that we sent. It’s great to see where we are doing well and where we can improve. As well as helping us, you are also helping local charities as we make a donation for each form that is returned by you. This month, we are pleased to make a donation to the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. This amazing charity provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families.

Following an introduction to a school in need via Kier Construction, Totus recently completed a classroom lighting upgrade at Aveton Gifford C of E Primary School, replacing their old lighting in Class 4 with new energy efficient LED lighting, which will not only reduce the schools carbon emissions but will also provide them with considerable financial savings and an improved lighting level, to provide a positive working environment.

The school were thrilled with their new installation, especially as the installation was provided free of charge by Totus along with the materials.

See the before and after images below. We hope the teachers and students enjoy their new classroom environment when they return this week.

Huge well done to our team!

Last week we held a thank you presentation to the super fundraisers from the TOTUS 80 Challenge, at our base near St Day.

The team from TOTUS Engineering Ltd completed their endurance challenge last month. They ran and walked the distance of 3 marathons over 3 days (from Lands End to Treyarnon Bay), along some of the most grueling coast path that Cornwall has to offer. Including a staggering 13,822ft of elevation.

They have raised £2,600 to date! Thank you to everyone who left a donation.

Totus Challenge Complete!

Between 8th and 10th September 2022, Totus undertook their most gruelling challenge yet, with a team of runners and a team of walkers covering 80 miles over 3 days from Lands End to Padstow, along some of the most brutal coast path that Cornwall has to offer.

Thursday – Day 1 of the challenge was met with trepidation. None of the group, walkers, or runners, had any experience of this section of coast path and the fear of the unknown was palpable. The weather was not on our side….
30mph winds and sideways rain met us and our support crew from West Cornwall Search and Rescue at Lands End. After a quick photo shoot and some words of encouragement, we set off. Our hope was to catch the walking group before the finish line. They had set off 2 ½ hours previously and had made good progress despite the weather.
The terrain underfoot was not kind and at one point we were climbing over rocks to follow the path, which was not in our training plan! The weather, mud and rocks were relentless. We had several checkpoints along the route, meeting with our support crew for water top ups, refuelling and some much-needed sock changes. We finally caught up with the walkers at mile 20, checked in to make sure everyone was okay and swapped stories. The finish was not far away, with the terrain easing and the weather kinder we pushed on to the finish. Day 2 was going to be tough!

Friday – Day 2 after a good night’s rest and plenty of carbs we were ready to tackle day 2. This was a section that we had trained on, so our tired legs knew what was coming. Our route was full of beach, dunes, hills, and steps but luckily the weather was a lot drier despite the bitterly cold wind. Our finish point for the day was Perranporth – 26 miles away, we were going to have to dig deep. The views were absolutely spectacular and remembering why we were doing this challenge gave us a boost when things got tough. We had to say goodbye to Dave at mile 17 as he had suffered a knee injury but seeing him at the end with pasties was a very welcome sight!

Saturday – Day 3 we had made it to the final day! We all set off in good spirits on a beautiful sunny day. The first part of our run took us across Perranporth beach with almost three miles of soft golden sand to wake the legs up as we approached Newquay. We had excellent support from the Watergate Bay Hotel who fed and watered us at the halfway point which gave us plenty of energy to make the final push to the finish. We were lucky enough to catch up with the walkers with about 1 mile to go so it was lovely to be able to cross the finish line together.

An excellent effort from everyone involved with nearly £3,000 raised for West Cornwall Search and Rescue.

Well done Team Totus!

Following the success of our 2-day 60 mile Saint's Way event in 2019, the Totus team have chosen an even bigger challenge for 2022.

Covering 80 miles from Land's End to Treyarnon Bay near Padstow, our team will be running or walking the distance of 3 marathons over 3 days along some of the most gruelling coast path that Cornwall has to offer.

Totus aim to raise valuable funds for WCSAR who operate 24/7 365 days a year and maintain a 40 strong team of local volunteers on donations alone. WCSAR assist the police, HMCG and Fire & Rescue in searches for lost, missing or injured people across moorland and the coast.
