360 Degrees Outdoor Enabling journeys of growth and discovery in Scotland’s wild places

We are a small company, based on the edge of the Southern Highlands, whose aim is to help people get out and about and enjoy themselves in the wild, and not so wild, places of Scotland. With over 30 years experience of having fun outdoors ourselves, we are well placed to help you make the most of your time, whatever your plans and ambitions. Young
The main focus of our work is on helping young peo

ple 'find their feet’ in the outdoors, especially young people who might not otherwise get the opportunity to visit and explore some of the fantastic places that exist in Scotland beyond the margins of our cities. These days, a growing body of evidence is confirming what many of us have long believed: that the incredible multi-sensory experience of being active outdoors confers huge benefits on young people, both health-wise and in terms of their personal and social development. We’re constantly looking for new ways to encourage young people to engage with their environment, so visit our website at www.360degreesoutdoor.co.uk to find out more.

…and ‘Old'
However, we’re not just interested in young people - we’re keen to help anyone, of whatever age, get outside and have fun. Whether you’re simply looking for someone to ensure a family outing up Ben Nevis or one of Scotland’s other peaks goes smoothly, or looking for some help to prepare for a 3 Peaks Challenge, we are happy to help. Scotland’s mountains are fantastic places - living, changing landscapes: sometimes bathed in sunshine; swathed in atmospheric strands of mist at others. We would be delighted to help you explore this wonderful landscape, with its varied plant and animal life, its rich history and culture. Above all, we are committed to ensuring that your journey is a safe one, giving you an experience that will leave you with positive memories and a desire to come back and explore more of this wonderful land

Unexpected workout this afternoon - from time to time, friendly passing arborists drop us a load of wood chips and logs for the community garden. Unfortunately, they can only drop them on the street, so when it happens, I have to stop what I’m doing and go shift them! 2 hours of shovelling and shifting logs means I’m skipping the gym tonight 🤪

Funny how pets mould themselves so completely into the patterns of our lives - Luna and I settled down in front of the fire for the first time since Bracken left us, and I suddenly realised we’d both instinctively left her favourite spot ‘front and centre’ free for her to join us…

Spent yesterday afternoon dismantling our old bed, wrestling the old mattress downstairs, hoovering and shampooing the carpet, building the new bed, wrestling the new mattress upstairs, putting sheets, pillows etc on the new bed - turned my back, and this little gremlin was settled in and adjusting the duvet to her liking! The cheek of it!!

Back up Ben A’an with another batch of SiMY kids today; driech but mild day, and great to be out with a group who were so inquisitive about their environment and enjoying being outside in the hills.

I had a meeting in Drymen yesterday morning, so took the opportunity to fill the time until MR training in the evening with a pedal round the Loch Ard area. Atmospheric, and absolutely freezing - I was braking on the downhills to try and limit the windchill!

Luna’s clearly reached the age where I am just an embarrassment to share a picture with - much happier when she’s not sharing the stage, which I’m fine with, because it meant I didn’t feel the need to share my lasagne pie from St Mocha’s 😆

Beautiful morning for a stroll with the dog - if you peer really hard, the summit of Ben Ime is just visible, capped with what looks like a dusting of snow.

Out and about with the SiMY weans yesterday as part of our Autumn hillwalking mini-adventure programme, aimed at helping them begin the journey towards being independent hill walkers. Yesterday was all about the basics of self care, learning to listen to, and respond, to the messages our bodies send us during the day on the hills.

We haven’t done one of these for a while - between torn Achilles, ageing dogs, gubbed knees and Covid, we reckon it’s about 2 years since Cat and I just got out of the car and went for a walk up a hill together!
