Have you ever been to a Pirate Festival ?
You can do it this weekend in Conwy. The Pirate Festival was first held in 2003. The idea for the festival came from a group of local residents who wanted to create a fun and festive event that would celebrate the history and culture of Conwy.
The period in history between roughly 1650 to 1730 is regarded as the 'Golden Age of Piracy' and this is the period in which the event is set. Carrying cargo at sea was always dangerous among the hazards were storms and bad weather unreliable navigation techniques, unseaworthy often rotten vessels and piracy. Pirates set up strongholds on Bardsey Island and Lundy Island in the Irish Sea from where they carried out their raids. Beaumaris was renowned as a pirate haven and trading town from where it is highly likely they travelled to Conwy with its busy port.

""We sail a boat upon the path paddle with leaves Down an ecstatic lines of flight"
A coloured glass and steel sculpture looking like a small sailing boat, floating in a stream was Inspired by Dylan Thomas's Poem "Rain Cuts The Place We Tread"
The sculpture that can be found in Swansea , is half a leaf and half a boat resting on a shaped stone. The glaze on the glass is golden. The sculpture stands in and is surrounded by water was designed by Amber Hiscott and David Pearl.

Swansea or Abertawe in Welsh is the second-largest city of Wales. There is plenty to see and do and it is easily reachable by train from London or Cardiff. We created a short video about our wonder around the Town Centre.

22–24 February 1797 last ever invasion of mainland Britain took place when a French force landed west of Fishguard in Wales.
Legends has it, that Jemima Nicholas, wearing her traditional welsh hat and pitchfork in hand, led a group of women out into the countryside to confront the invading army. She succeeded in her mission and managed to capture a dozen Frenchmen.
This fascinating story is told in our embroidered tapestry which was designed and sewn by around 80 local women. Like the Bayeux tapestry , it is 100 foot long and took four years to complete and is on permanent exhibition in our purpose built gallery attached to the Library in Fishguard Town Hall.
