Bachlaw Smallholding Bachlaw Smallholding in rural Aberdeenshire is working with Soay Sheep, Blackface Sheep, Suffolk She Our first sheep arrived from Wick in Summer of 2015.

In 2015 Bachlaw Projects had 35 acres of land in rural Aberdeenshire. At the time most of this was laid to forest and rough ground covered in gorse. A few staff were interested in starting a smallholding and they started to research which animals they would start with. During one of our sailing trips around St Kilda we had become interested in the history and the sheep that were native to this isl

and - Soay Sheep. We researched these and decided that they would be a good first flock to have. We were attracted to their hardiness, the fact that they needed little intervention when lambing and that they often shed their fleeces without the need to shear.
