We are delighted to see the launch of The Charles Dickens Trail , a 6.3 mile hike taking on the sights , and relaying the history of Charles Dickens time on the Island.

This glossy map, complete with QR codes at key points along the Trial, will bring to life the history , and the trail also takes you across the highest point on the Island - so not for the faint hearted,

We have done our own research into Charles Dicken's connections with the Island , and on a much smaller scale curated our first Dickens walk around Ventnor and Bonchurch back in the Spring of 2021 . You can read our blog on our website

We are thrilled that 4 years later a formal trial has been established with the support of many , and this glossy pamphlet , will be availabe in tourist hot spots - and on the Island ferries .

Good morning !

We have had some wonderful bright few days , on a cold start to the year on the island . Over the last few weeks, we have received many bookings for this coming summer .. as people's thoughts turn to summer holidays.

We now only have a few open weeks between now and the end of September , and if you are thinking of staying with us in 2025, we recommend booking early to avoid dissapointment :

May - Fully Booked

The weekend of 20th / 23rd June which is also the Isle of Wight Festival in Newport . We are around 30 minutes drive away from the Festival , so if you fancy combining seeing the likes of Sting, Justin Timberland or The Stereophonics , with a bit of this could be ideal

w/c 25th July is available , the first weekend is the end of the nearby Ventnor Fringe Festival with tons of fun shows for Adults and kids alike - all within a 30 minute walk of the cottage.

August - Fully Booked

September - w/c 12th & 26th are available - after the school summer holidays , but a perfect time to visit , not quite so busy , but normally good weather !

We purchased Haviland Cottage in July 2019 , and set about refurbishing it as a luxury , dog friendly holiday let on the outskirts of Ventnor & Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight . We installed new floors , carpets, plantation shutters , heating & lighting as well as giving it a thorough refresh and installing high quality ( if slightly quirky ) furniture .

We have six Golden Retrievers ourselves , so wanted a property with large secure gardens ( there is over 1/2 acre ) , and close to coastal walks , beaches and walks across the downs. Haviland ticks all these boxes .

We were ready to start letting the Cottage out in March 2020, however the lockdown meant that early bookings had to be cancelled or postponed . We finally opened for business on 4th July 2020 , and all six guests that have stayed with us , have left wonderful reviews which can be viewed on the web-site . As an illustration our guests from last week left this review

This property is a real gem, with its beautiful landscaped gardens, spacious accommodation , top end furnishings and equipment, it really is a 5 star property. Having stayed in a number of holiday lets , this is simply the best !”
