Days out with Swysh…. Yarmouth 🎒 🥾

Known for its long wooden pier and chunky Tudor castle, Yarmouth is a historic market town located on the Island’s western tip 🏰

Having been a settlement for over a thousand years now, there’s plenty of well-preserved heritage to see - as well as unspoilt nature close by and enough maritime activities to keep any nautical enthusiast busy ⛵

Looking for some retail therapy whilst in town? Have a look at the stunning homewares on offer in Fox & Robin, pick up some locally designed bedding at XV Stripes or stock up on super creamy sweet treats from newly opened retailer Isle of Wight Fudge 🛍️

When it’s time for lunch, we highly recommend Off the Rails for their local beef burgers 🍔 and Salty's Pizza for a slice of stone-baked deliciousness🍕 After that, why not head over to The Wheatsheaf Inn for a little drink to round things off 🍻

For a place to base yourself when visiting Yarmouth, Swysh can offer you two tempting options - Landguard (a historic Grade II listed cottage in the very centre of town) or 4 Salterns (a spacious and modern home, set just over the river) 🏡 Take a look at our website to find out more…

If there’s anything that you love about Yarmouth that we’ve missed, let us know in the comments below 😊

At Swysh, we’re big fans of the Island’s locally grown specialities (as well as those that are baked, brewed or distilled here too!) So, to give you a head start in tracking down the best, we’ve gathered together our favourites just here 👇

🍅 Flavourful and pretty to look at, try The Tomato Stall for their heritage varieties of tomato, all grown in Arreton!

🧄 Garlic from The Garlic Farm in Newchurch is always a great option, you can even pick up some bulbs from their farm shop to grow yourself at home

🍺 If you’re looking for a locally brewed beer, you can’t go wrong with Wight Knuckle Brewery - an award-winning microbrewery based in Bembridge

🍸 Famous across the country, Mermaid Gin from the Isle of Wight Distillery not only tastes fantastic but comes in some pretty stunning glass bottles too!

🥩 For locally reared Belted Galloway beef, take a look at Nunwell Home Farm who offer subscription services for everything from burgers and joints to beef sausages and steaks

🥛 Produced from an award-winning herd of Guernsey cattle, when it comes to rich and creamy milk, you have to go for Briddlesford Farm

🧀 And finally, if you’re partial to a bit of cheese, don’t miss the selection from The Isle of Wight Cheese Company - based in Queen’s Bower, near Sandown

🍻 Swysh’s Top Isle of Wight Pubs 🍻

With a long history of beer and brewing on the Isle of Wight, it’s no wonder we’re home to so many top-notch pubs too - from rustic, thatched inns set amongst the rolling hills of West Wight, to newer community-focused taprooms that brew their frothy concoctions on-site 🍺

👇 Whilst we’d love to list as many as possible, here are six of our current favourites:

Red Lion, Freshwater 🦁 for bags of character and one of the best pub chefs around

The Folly Inn, Whippingham 🛟 for its long history and scenic, riverside location

The Crab and Lobster Tap, Ventnor 🦀 for its snug size and strong community feeling

Boojum and Snark, Sandown 🍺 for their home-brewed beers and ambitions to revive Sandown

The Fighting C***s, Arreton 🛝 for its garden entertainment to keep the little ones busy

And finally, The Vine Inn, St Helens 🍇 which has just been nominated for Pub of the Year by the Isle of Wight County Press

Let us know if you have any favourite Isle of Wight drinking spots of your own!

📍 Sunseekers, Colwell Bay

Located on the Island’s western tip and just 150 yards from the crisp, clear waters of Colwell Bay is Sunseekers - a sleek, modern and recently revamped home, offering everything you could want (and more) from a relaxing seaside stay 🌊 🦀

😴 Sleeps 8
🛏️ 4 bedrooms
🧽 5 bathrooms
🛀 Plus a hot tub in the garden

Sunseekers always receives fantastic guest reviews, including one from a recent visitor describing it as the best self-catering accommodation they’ve ever stayed in! 🤩 Guests also tell us that they like the rainfall showers, the comfy beds and the very short walk to the sea… ⛵

Colwell itself is a tranquil seaside neighbourhood, with views across the sparkling blue waves towards Hampshire. Its undulating coastline provides an array of impressive walks leading to Yarmouth, Totland and the scenic, heather-covered heights of Headon Warren. The town of Freshwater is close by too and we’d highly recommend paying a visit to Tennyson’s former home at Farringford Estate and the museum dedicated to pioneering female photographer Julia Margaret Cameron at Dimbola Museum & Galleries 📸

Hearing reviews like this makes it all worthwhile 😀

May 2024: “Where to start, what an absolutely gorgeous place! The views are outstanding!! It felt like home away from home. The kitchen was fully equipped with more than you could ever need for a week away, it was spotlessly clean with an excellent coffee machine. The living room was full to bursting with games, DVDs, telescope and binoculars to look at the boats coming and going. The views are simply sensational. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner on the decking area, had a few drinks on the beautiful balcony and enjoyed some wonderful evenings in the hot tub overlooking the coast horizon views. The beds are so comfortable and we had some of the best nights sleep in months here. It was so peaceful, calm and very private. The hosts were excellent at communicating, instructions were clear on how to get in and there was a folder full of information and recommendations. Sharron was extremely helpful in organising some surprises for my husband’s birthday on our arrival. We will 100% be returning.”
