I don't often call someone out on Facebook but on this occasion it needs to be done.
Rui Alexandre Morais Pedro has suggested that one of the +100lb Goonch Catfish caught by a Guest of Pancheshwar Fishing Retreat & The Greatest Fish was in fact a dead fish that was posed with for photographs...
This is not true and anyone who has ever fished with either outfit knows this would never happen.
Both Goonch were carefully caught and released, and went back very strong into the Ramganga River. In fact both fish were hooked and landed quickly on strong tackle. The Goonch weighed 110lbs and 120lbs respectively.
Unfortunately Rui has been told a fairy-story by someone (possibly a jealous guide from another camp or a friend who unsurprisingly did NOT catch a +100lb Goonch). In his wisdom without even checking the facts he thought it would be a good idea to put the made-up story on Facebook...
The only advice I can offer here to Rui is to check his facts in the future before posting fake news. Have a think about the motives of the people feeding you such stories...
Rui, one day I hope you too can catch a +100lb Goonch and/or a +50lb Mahseer from India. Until that day happens don't be too envious of others and keep checking your scales.
I also hope you can continue to find the budget style trips you seek out.
