I thought the Hotel Bintang Flores in Labuan Bajo was amazing. We got on well with the other three people in our group, and it was wonderful to hand ourselves over to the capable hands of Matheus and his crew. We were very impressed by the crew, who worked extremely hard and were very friendly but also unobtrusive. The boat was lovely, and it was great to have the option to stay on board rather than kayak all the time. We loved the different outings laid on for us. The boys had a wonderful time. The highlight for them was the Manta rays and the Komodos. Matheus was particularly good with the boys. The food on board was very good. The cabins were comfortable, and we all opted to stay on board rather than camp for the second camping opportunity.

So all in all it was totally brilliant and I'm really happy that I managed to"

“Thank you. I had a wonderful time in the Amazon and the Galapagos. The two locations complemented each other perfectly; I saw impressive wildlife in both places, but they were each very different experiences.

I’m grateful for Laurenne’s advice that these trips would work for a single traveller. In each case, small groups made me feel very welcome, as did the guides and staff.

Going in the “hot” season worked out very well; green vegetation and warm water for swimming in the Galapagos, although I suspect I was lucky to experience almost no rain and many blue skies. Also lucky to see the night sky lit up red by a volcano on Fernandina.”

“Our trip to Costa Rica fulfilled all our expectations and hopes. Our guide, Juve, who was with us throughout, went out of his way to answer all our questions and make our stay as enjoyable as possible. He was a very steady and safe driver. His great knowledge of birds, plants, animals and insects really enhanced our stay. And he was knowledgeable too about politics, history and the economy. He was a great companion. Another outstanding guide we had the pleasure of doing nocturnal and daytime walking tours with, was Marvin at Braulio Carrillo National Park. Highlights for us were Los Lirios Lodge, feeling right in the middle of the coastal forest, and the amazing bird watching: toucans, scarlet macaws and roseate spoonbills. The clean air, blue skies and the bright colours of birds and plants were fantastic. Swimming in the Pacific Ocean was also special, with frigate birds gliding overhead. Pura vida!”

“Firstly, we had a wonderful holiday, your local operators did you proud, and Abdullah our driver guide was excellent.

All the lodges were lovely, the staff in all of them couldn’t have been more helpful, and we certainly found using the porters on the gorilla trekking an absolute must which we would recommend to anyone.

We got to see all the animals we wanted, bar the hyena’s which remained noisy around our lodge at Mburu but elusive to the eye, and the chimps stayed in the trees as there was a cool light rain on the day we visited, but nature is nature and the trade off was seeing three leopards together stalking some Impalas and then sitting and posing for us so we got some great photos.”

Mexico – Best of Baja With Whale Watching In Magdalena Bay

The breathtakingly beautiful peninsular of Baja California is a long strip of rugged cactus strewn desert and dramatic coastline sandwiched between the Sea of Cortes and the Pacific Ocean…

“Our holiday in Baja California Sur reminded us of our wonderful trip to the Galapagos 14 yrs ago! The itinerary was varied which gave us some amazing experiences i.e. surfing lesson at Los Cerritos, taco crawl in Todos Santos, Mexican cooking class with Chef Iker, camping at Cecil de La Sierra and La Laguna Biosphere Reserve. We did a couple of hikes and gazed at amazing night sky. After 2 days at Camp Cecil we grabbed by boat to our camp at Isla Espiritu Santo for 3 nights. It is a National Marine Park, part of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our activities included hiking around the island with magnificent towering cliffs, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkelling with sea lions. Bird watching is also excellent. We also snorkelled with whale sharks in the Bay of La Paz, grey whale watching in Magdalena Bay - loved every minute of it as it was one of the best whale watching trips we have done! Sadly the trip came to an end but would love to visit it again.

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience – it was a well put together itinerary which was managed on the ground very efficiently.

Don't be fooled, these are blue-eyed black lemurs! They're among the most striking examples of sexual dichromatism in the lemur world. Here's the scoop: males sport a sleek black coat, while females rock a reddish-brown to orange hue. Surprisingly, both genders start off with the same orange-brown coloration at birth. But as they mature over the first 4-8 weeks, males undergo a dramatic transformation, turning into the midnight-colored marvels we know them to be!
