As the London rain pounds against the windows of our office, we're taking a moment to reminisce about the warm memories captured last summer on Manana while we were in sunny St. Tropez.

During our visit, we had the pleasure of experiencing the catamaran, an incredible sailing venue that offered top-notch entertainment. The Funktion-One (Official) sound system, installed by Sova Audio, includes F101.2, F55, BR118, and BR115 models, all designed to withstand the weather conditions of the Mediterranean Sea. The amplification was done by Linea Research.

Happy Sunday all! Here's a cheeky picture of a white F5 loudspeaker system (the SB8 is in hiding🥷) installed on a lovely yacht cruising the Mediterranean. These are available even without the boat, making them more affordable without sacrificing on the sound quality. More on Sova Audio’s website.

Two weeks since Sound II Light — Spatial Sound Event vibed out in a venue that was a true host of our creative exploration.

It took a bit of time to gather up the pieces and find the right words to express our appreciation to everyone for their relentless heartening energy and investigative spirit.

Together we composed a vibrant community event, a cluster of creative inputs and skill-sharing by inspiring artists, educators, professionals and you who were present and engaging! Thank you!

Thank you to all the musical magicians — Nexcyia, mu tate, Sybil, Dan Nicholls & Julian Sartorius, and the support of Avsluta, who worked for months prior to interpret our concept and test their pieces at Studio Sova.

Thanks to all the visual artists that lit the room up, transformed the space for each performance and ran hand in hand with the spatial sound. Lou Zon, Nicole Gordon & auratekh — thank you brother for your input and pop-up installation.

Thank you to Nicole Gordon for putting her whole being and pulling the transformative Organic Mechanics installation together and to her artistic collaborator — Hannah Brown, who has been going through a life changing rollercoaster and still found the drive and strength to be part of this. On Saturday 25th March, Avsluta will run a practical workshop together with fellow sound artist and Amoenus founder Christian Duka.

The workshop will explore in depth creative strategies of using spatial sound as an integral extension of one’s creative practice and will give an introductory insight into the basic tools, setup and workflow within Ableton.

Sound II Light — Spatial Sound Event

Funktion-One founder Tony Andrews will join a panel discussion at Sova Labs 'Sound II Light' spatial audio festival, taking place on 24-25 March.

Sound II Light is a a two-day event dedicated to spatial sound being held in London at the Leyton-based creative community space Patchworks.xyz. The event is part of Waltham Forest cultural programme for 2023.

Tony was an early pioneer of spatial audio and ambisonics. In 1992, he was instrumental in introducing an electronic music stage to Glastonbury for the first time with the Experimental Soundfield - a four point ambisonic sound system. This significant development for the festival formed part of Tony's investigations into the subject. In his coauthored paper, Observations and Experiments with Surround Sound, published in 2004, he concluded: "The extra dimension and ability to generate moving events afforded by surround sound can be truly said to improve the listening experience." Spatial audio and ambisonics have been an important part of Tony's journey in sound and lifetime pursuit of sonic excellence.
