Whatever happens, make sure your children have fun! Top tip number 9 is crucial in allowing the kids to enjoy the skiing rather than focusing too much on how quickly they are progressing. Equally don’t be overly ambitious as children can sense this too and it can put unnecessary pressure on them. Let them enjoy the snow and learn at their own pace.

Top tip number 8 is to always be enthusiastic, encouraging and supportive! This applies to both parents as if one parent is indifferent then this can be quite demotivating. If the kids are surrounded by enthusiastic parents, they’ll most likely feel more confident getting on the slopes.

Packing an extra pair of gloves is something that is often forgotten when getting ready for a ski holiday which is why it is out 7th top tip! Activities like snowman building or sledging usually take places after a days skiing and can often lead to soggy gloves which is why having an extra pair (for both the kids and the adults) means ensuring you’ll have a dry pair for the morning! No need for these to be new, a second hand pair will do the job just as well.

Top tip number 6 would be to choose your ski gear carefully and make sure it is all warm and well fitting. You want the kids to be as dry as possible on the mountain so they don’t get cold and end up wanting to stop early. It’s important that their clothes aren’t too big letting in lots of snow and only opt for hand me downs if it’s definitely the right fit. Buying ski gear second hand can be a great way to save money, especially if the kids are growing out of theirs every few years ( is a great place to look).

Coming in at tip number 5 is to take your kids to a snow dome or indoor ski slope before your holiday, especially if they’re a beginner or nervous skier. This will give them a feel for what it is all about or will get their confidence back up before being on the slopes again. Definitely a fun activity for a rainy Saturday afternoon!

While you hope your children will be exhausted after a day on the mountain, they are likely to still have some energy. This leads us on to tip number four, pick a resort with other winter activities. This could be anything from sledging to ice skating to swimming or if you’re in Klosters this year, ice mini golf!

Tip number 3 is to book sensibly timed flights! Arriving too late on your first day will mean arriving in the resort tired and most likely after the ski shop has closed. Getting a flight earlier in the day will allow you to get all your ski gear prepared ahead of your full first day of skiing and getting an early night to make sure the little ones are raring to go the next morning. When leaving the resort you need to factor in transfer times, so don’t book a flight too early or you might be getting in a bus at the crack of dawn!

Top tip number 2 is to book your tuition well in advance! When skiing over busy periods such as New Year, February half term or Easter, instructors and ski schools book up incredibly quickly. In order to get the best tuition for you or your child on the slopes, get in there early and book as soon as you can.

As the autumn half term begins with lots of families going off on holiday, we thought we’d share our Top Ten Tips for a perfect family skiing holiday. Our number one rule would be to pick a small resort with short transfer times. Smaller resorts are more compact with everything more walkable, an important feature to think about when carrying skis (or carrying multiple pairs if you’re the parent)! They also tend to feel friendlier and safer for younger children and also allow your older ones to be more independent.
