Housing a vast collection of Late Jurassic age fossils, visitors at this Dorset museum can discover sea monsters, prehistoric predators and marine flora that lived over 152 million years ago when Dorset was nothing more than a shallow, tropical sea.

💥 The Tank Museum

Situated in Bovington Camp, an active British Army military base near the village of Wool, the Museum houses a collection of approximately 300 vehicles from 26 countries across the globe. History buffs might recognise Tiger 131, the only working example of a German Tiger 1 Tank.

After lining his walls and furnishing their rooms with remarkable art and artefacts, Russell-Cotes donated his home to the town of Bournemouth, and since 1922 it’s shared its wonders with the general public.

3. Zig Zag Hill, near Cann Common, is Britain's bendiest road 🛣️

4. The popular tongue twister, “She sells sea-shells on the sea-shore”, was inspired by fossil-lover and Dorset-born palaeontologist Mary Anning 🦖

5. The first ever reported sighting of an UFO in Britain was in Fleet, a village in West Dorset. On 8th December 1733, Mr Cracker reported seeing a silvery disc fly overhead in broad daylight 🛸
