The youth & educational travel sector brings over £20 billion p.a. to the UK. Bookings for next year are falling whilst demand for countries which allow ID cards, such as Ireland and Denmark, is soaring.

Whilst not all economic value is from school visits, this is often students’ introduction to the UK. The UK risks losing its place at the top of the educational tourism market with associated impact on jobs.

Our own students too will lose these visits as an opportunity for cultural exchange.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/587749

Consider the financial & educational impact of no longer allowing school age children and their teachers to enter UK with just ID cards. Many of these groups come for a small number of days, the financial & organisational costs of obtaining passports and visas is prohibitive
