6 months today we arrived in Perth. It has been a crazy 6 months. I am in my second job and Doug is doing his own thing in the 🚓 Academy. It’s been challenging, emotional, stressful and hard in general. It’s taking us a while to settle and although we love Australia it doesn’t feel like home. The set up of our lives is definitely better than the UK, the dog is happier and healthier. The girls are finally settled and things seem to be looking up. Business ideas are floating around my head, I don’t feel we would have had the same opportunities in the UK. We do miss the UK, my close friends, some family 🤣, SPORTS, opportunities to travel. I think people are right when they say you need to give it at least 18 months to see if it’s right for you. You need to weight up what is most important to you and your family.
Happy 6 months to us. It has flown by feels like weeks. Crazy!!

This man! Gosh am so proud of him. Two weeks ago he started his new job. We are not meant to tell you what his new job is 👮‍♀️🚓 as they have very strict rules around posting on social media. He has a long 28 weeks in training before he is officially on the job. Doug has worked so hard all his life he has worked two jobs when we needed and always done everything he needed to support our family. He is a prime example for anyone who believes they can’t chase their dreams. Doug has and in a whole new country.

Me and the girls are so bloody proud of you Doug!! You show our girls that anything is possible if you put the hard work and dedication into it. Your the best! 🩷

We finally purchased and picked up our car in the last few weeks. It’s been a crazy few weeks here for sure!

We purchased an Isuzu D-MAX X-TERRAIN
To finance the car was easy we needed
🔸Two payslips each
🔸Proof of address
🔸Driving Licence
🔸A contact number for two people you know. This is so they can contact them if you don’t pay and they can’t get hold of you

All done within a few days of applying
Deposit $1000
Finance for $67,000
APR 9.7%
Monthly payments $1,117.39

We played with the idea of paying the car off but want to buy at the end of this year so was advised this was the best way. Have a bigger deposit.

When you get a car on finance you have to have it insured fully comp.

Car insurance
We went with Budget Finance as they recognised our no claims from the UK we just needed to prove this within two weeks of applying for the insurance. Make sure you get yourself a letter!!

Budget Direct
Fully Comprehensive for two drivers
No claims used from UK
$1352.46 for the year

after a city walk we drove here as I’ve heard really good things about their croissants. The humans weren’t telling fibs. Oh my word delicious and well worth a visit. They have some seating outside too if you need to rest your legs.
We purchased 2 egg bacon croissant sandwiches and Gracie had the ham and cheese all for under $30 bargain!!

We are putting together a meet up for anyone who is interested. I have around 20 people interested up to now. Lots of families coming with young children and older children.

Hopefully the weather holds and we can stay outside but plenty of indoor space if we need it.

Date : Saturday 18th May
Time: 1:30pm
Location: Hilary’s Beach Club

Let us know if you want to come along as it would be lovely to meet up with some new people.

If it goes well we could make it a regular meet 😄

A really good app to have if you’re here in Perth.
You can link up plenty of services including fuel watch, you can see prices differ in fuel. Weather watch and shark watch is also a good one to add. It tells you if a shark has been sighted and if an incident has occurred. You can also add the bush fire watch another good one to keep your eye on if you live in the wider area.
The other tab is where additional services become available such as WA student assistance service. Don’t forget to apply for this if you are here and have children in primary and secondary school. The app is diabolical so it’s best to use the link instead to claim https://www.education.wa.edu.au/wasap/alternative-claim-methods

We have been quiet we know. The last few weeks have been difficult. You move to the other side of the world with teenagers. You move your dog, your job, your comforts, your life. We built the life we had at home together for 17 years so why do we feel after 4 months we should have it figured out. We wont, you won’t!
I didn’t really have a holiday mode feeling when we arrived we got stuck straight into sorting the house, worrying about the girls and Toby whilst worrying about the pennies we spent. Doug jumped into a job with Sevenseas and I have a good job now. I already know I won’t stay in the job I have but am not too worried as I will slowly look for another one.

If you’re here don’t worry about the feelings you are having of missing everything at home. I miss my food, I miss my favourite drinks, I miss feeling at home in my home. Doug speaks to people who have been here around 4 months everyday and they all say the same thing as us. We are happy but something is missing. I know with time I will find all my favourite Aussie things, for now I can say I do miss things at home ( not the weather or some of the views) I miss my nephews so much.
Aus is not perfect, still has rubbish, trolleys and needles dumped around in some places. But at least you have a better background view 😂.
It’s ok to feel like that when you move here, it’s ok to miss things in the UK, it’s ok to not be happy some days. Don’t let anyone tell you that you should suck it up because you left the UK and moved here. We are all human and we do get to feel like this. For most of us, including me we will have the outcome we want. We will be happy here and love life. One thing I have learnt (from Doug) is that you can’t sit on your butt and wait, you have to make the changes in your life yourself and go grab what it is your looking for. We haven’t been to the beach in 2 weeks or sat in the garden and that’s ok because I don’t have to turn into an Aussie overnight.

Taylor has struggled a fair bit. The first month was especially hard on Taylor she struggled to settle into school, new lessons and make new friends. Taylor is not overly social she had a small group of friends at home and enjoyed that.
Taylor has made friends in school but not close friends. School is challenging but that’s because she is in her first year of ATAR and it’s tough going. A lot of her time is spent on homework after school.
Taylor loves gaming and watching films. Not many people seem to be into gaming here, she has tried to find them in school but they don’t seem to be about. She did find a small gaming group but their idea of gaming was Candy Crush 😂.
Taylor has changed a lot in the sense of she is more open and willing to go out of her comfort zone.
I had days of her crying in my arms the first few weeks but now she is a lot better. We are so proud of here smashing school and just getting on with it. Nothing has been too much for her.
Taylor is very much a comfort person she misses all her little comforts from the UK. Malteasers apparently they taste like fart here. Iceland curry’s there is no cheap quick microwave meals here. Certain pop she likes, Dr Pepper being one.

I think the younger your kids are the better as they adapt to the life here a lot quicker. Bringing teenagers here is hard, be prepared for that. Mentally prepare them and let them know what to expect as much as you can.

We felt terrible as parents bringing her here and putting her in that position when she was doing so well in the UK but we see the bigger picture. 3 months in she is doing ok, 6 months down the line she will be better and continue to be. In the future she will have the best life and that’s what we were aiming for ❤️.

Gracie is doing really well! Gracie has thrived in Australia and is loving life. She has settled into school well and has made lots of new friends. We have even had a few sleepovers.
The only thing I would say Gracie struggles with is how children don’t play out here. Gracie was always out after school but here no one seems to play out. At the weekend her friends may ride down to the beach with her or go shopping.
Gracie wants to be at the beach all the time, everyday if she could be.
School is going well, academically she has improved and is settled. I have no issues at all and no worries for Gracie. I would like to see her playing out more but just don’t think it’s the culture here.

I wasn’t sure whether to post this or not but what the hell. The first picture is of me (obviously) in the UK at the most stressful point of our emigrating process. I was so stressed I flared up in some kind of rash on my face that took months to go. I had to use this photo for all of my ID pictures too 😂. I was so sore. I do get stressed and physically stressed or did. I don’t get stressed half as much here, I have had some up and down days due to worry and other things but I feel healthier. I had really bad asthma at home using inhalers everyday. I maybe use them once a week here. The girls eczema has completely cleared up and I don’t have any flare ups on my face. I believe this is down to a better lifestyle but also the weather, the sun makes me happy and we are just much happier as a family. The dog is even much healthier too.
Things just don’t bother me as much either I seem to have taken on the laid back Aussie way of I can’t be arsed 😂.
We seem to have more energy too we are not lethargic anymore. Me and Doug have been doing Couch to 5K and actually got to the 3rd week for the first time after 367588 tries 😂.
We obviously have the usually worries as an adult still and still getting settled but after 3 months we can say we are doing well and life is good 🦘🇦🇺.

Toby our baby boy is doing amazing! He came out of quarantine with a little bit of anxiety. Think he was worried about us leaving him again and not coming back 😔. He is a reactive dog so we worried and stressed about him soooo much. In the Uk he had skin allergies like you wouldn’t believe, ear issues, paw issues so many issues. Here everything seems to have subsided he is very healthy for a 10 year old and is back to running around like a puppy.
Toby has a nerve degenerative issue in his back which causes his legs to go stiff, this was an issue for a few weeks when he got back as he must have been lay down a lot but after daily exercise he is all good.
He was always our biggest worry, would he be ok travelling, will he manage quarantine, will he be too stressed with all the dogs barking, will he manage the heat. He has adapted well, the heat does get to him at times but he lays under the AC or in front of his fan. He’s king of the house and loving life in Aus!!

Social media certainly makes it look worse than it is but that doesn’t mean it’s easy! I see a lot of people not getting rentals when they come here stressing, worrying then eventually paying for a relocation agent because they are unable to secure a home. You need to be looking at least 6 weeks before you arrive, have a solid application for all involved, have feet on the ground to build a good rapport with the agents, know what it is you want and what you want to pay.
Because of the rental crisis, unfortunately people do take advantage of the situation. This home here is on the market for $480 will go for around $530, 2 bed/1bath near the city with over 50 applicants. Client wasn’t keen but getting desperate (late to the relocation party) I secured the apartment for them but after this got an email to say the dishwasher wasn’t working and neither was the air con.
When the contract was sent over it stated no appliances in the home were going to be fixed as part of the tenancy agreement. I had to advise the client against taking it.
Landlords know people are desperate and to be honest are taking the absolute p*ss!
You do have to be a little accepting with what you want here but it doesn’t mean you roll over and become a doormat. House are a little dated, unclean and sometimes need a lick of paint but that’s because the landlord knows if you don’t want it another applicant will.
You will get a home it’s just making sure you do it the right way!

meet ups are great. Not only do you get to meet people in the same situation but you also get to hear about how other people are feeling. Moving across the other side of the world, it’s not easy and you constantly doubt yourself. When you hear someone else is feeling the same way it makes you feel normal.
We also got to meet our fellow relocation agent .relocations.duc she was so great had the whole thing organised and set up like a pro.
We kind of jumped on this last minute but in the future we will ensure people know the meet ups are taking place. Come along have a bite to eat and meet other people in the same situation.
If we have a lot of interest we may just hold more and make a party of it 🎉.

Property 1
5 minutes from Scarborough beach perfect location
$730 a week
3 bed 1 bath

Photo 2 and 3 is how they were advertising the property looks like a gorgeous little Villa set back off the road, very modern and refurbished. What more could you want!!

On viewing the property the floor was concrete, carpets listed as new but wasn’t, BBQ missing, house was unbelievably filthy. This dust and grime in the shower room 🤢 and hair in the plugs 🤮. The walls were dirty and run down not how you would expect a house of this price to be.

Client is unsure about taking this property it would need a lick of paint and a deep clean. Not up to expectations. It can be daunting and gut wrenching when you get feedback like this but be assured there are good properties too it’s just finding them.

Why am I showing you this!! So you know what to expect. Aussie rentals are more tired looking, some estate agents don’t seem to have the passion to ensure the house is sparkling and rental ready. It’s a case of it will be cleaned before you move in and the paint is lived in. Why!!
In my opinion only - I also believe that the rental market has become so crazy that they don’t need to care, they know the property will be rented out and don’t have to fight for clients.

This is the reason you need a relocation agent, or have a friend view the property, or wait and view them yourself. Have a reliable honest person do the job for you, someone who knows what you want and how you like things. Be precise and don’t be afraid to turn rentals down if you don’t like them. This is your money!!

Your application is the key. I do a family report and break everything down for the estate agent to see. They know the family will look after the property and pay on time. Don’t be scared by the property market and don’t be forced into renting a property you don’t want.

Message me for relocation info and packages we offer.

Following on from my previous Medicare post. We applied on 10th January we hadn’t heard anything but was told it would take 3 months to supply us with a number. I recently got a job and needed my Medicare number so I could apply and complete the necessary checks for my job. I rang and was told after over 6 weeks none of my attachments in the original application email would open so I had to send them all again and ring back in 48 hours (1.5 hours wasted), they would then be able to give me my number. Doug was also eager for his number as he isn’t allowed on his usually betting apps without it.
I called back and the lady on the phone was telling me I couldn’t do it over the phone, I argued with her for 35 minutes before she said well ok I can do it but it takes a while. That’s fine with me lovely let’s go. 3 hours I was on the phone, every ten minutes she checked in with me to see if I still wanted to wait and when I said yes she huffed. If I could have hit her over the head with the phone I would have.
Anyway….after 3 hours I got my card and was able to set up my app. I don’t get it, why is it taking 3 months if you can do it over the phone!!! Anyway that’s a ball ache but know you can ring up if you really need it.

Heirisson Island - a lovely place to visit. Wild Kangaroos in their natural habitat. It was a bit of a warm day on this day so we had to go looking for them. It wasn’t easy to spot and find them. They were all hiding in the bushes keeping cool. Gorgeous views of the city and a lovely little stroll.

These are the BYOD laptop specs and a list of what software is needed. Apparently our school along with some others don’t recognise Windows 11, only Windows 10🤷🏼‍♀️🤦‍♀️. Which then makes it harder to source a laptop without uninstalling programmes and messing around. There seems to be a mix of students with their own laptop and schools. We have opted for the school laptop as it has many benefits
- longer warranty -
-Ready to be used with all software installed
- loan laptop if it was to break
-school support if anything goes wrong

Hopefully this helps

So school, some costs we just wasn’t expecting if am honest. We knew we would have start up costs and some other costs.. am still trying to understand some of it. It was very easy to enrol the girls in school I will do another post with documents needed. Our girls have just turned 16 and 13 they were in yr 11 and 8 in the UK. We had a meeting with school yesterday and it went well very welcoming, amazing school and very friendly. Yr 11 we had to choose options for either a ATAR or general certificate pathway. Our daughter wants to go to university so ATAR it was, she chose the courses she wanted and was happy. The only course some UK pupils may struggle with starting late is Music as pupils here learn instruments from the age of 5 as part of school, we don’t in the UK. They only study 6 chosen subjects too, Maths and Science is not one of them 😳. Crazy!! I will do a few posts on school to try and help.

costs for now Yr 11
Laptop $1700
Books $600
Uniform $132 for 2x polo tops and 1x shorts

Yr 8
Laptop $1700
Books $320
Uniform $217 for 2x polo tops, 1x shorts, 1xPE top and 1x PE shorts.

There are additional costs for yr 11 depending on what course you take for instance music there is a $150 charge for the music performing uniform. There is also a voluntary contribution schools ask for each year..yet to read up on this.

This is for a public school rated very well.

Free skip hire. We have ALOT of crap to go the tip/skip. We had already hired a UTE and took one load to the tip so didn’t fancy doing that again.
Doug found this…pretty good find if you ask me considering how much skips are in the UK.
We are based in Doubleview, City of Stirling. We get one free skip every financial year from the council. You book it online to be dropped off and again for pick up. We have one coming on Friday leaving on the Tuesday,
The council also does verge pick ups. Check your local council website and they will have dates for general rubbish being collected, garden waste, white goods, furniture everything.

This is one of the reasons I fell in love with Perth, they want to keep the place clean.

We found container for change.
You save all your empty water bottles, alcohol bottles 😂, cans, cartons etc and get 10c for each one returned. Doesn’t sound much but it all adds up.

🚘 They have drive through recycle centres, you drive through, they empty your car, scan your membership card and your money is transferred to your account.

🤸‍♂️ You can also empty it yourself in some centres.

🚮 When no you are in shopping centres you scan your membership card on a recycle bin, pop the bottle in and hey presto your money is added to your account.

Dog wash. Maybe one of the best inventions I’ve seen especially for someone with a big hairy dog 😂.
Toby ponged a little so we took him straight to Petbarn. The washers are all caged in so you don’t have to worry about other dogs or people. You can get a full shampoo wash, conditioned rinse, flea and tick rinse and a full blow dry.
$10 for the first 10 minutes
$4 for each 5 minutes after that
He was washed, shampooed and dry in 20mins. Un heard of!! He now smells beautiful. ❤️

$18 for a full doggy wash and blow dry.

TOBY IS HOME ❤️
We have had such a lovely day welcoming our boy back home. A little crazy picking him up as they release the cats and dogs to the owners in one place at Perth Airport. Toby doesn’t do well with other dogs so we waited a little until everyone had gone he was scratching away to get to us. There is also no enclosed space so if your dog is a runner be aware. Toby didn’t come back with anything I had sent, no lead, no collar nothing. Luckily I had my spare in my bag. Toby has kept his weight on, looks healthy, seems happy and is doing well. He did have a light pong to him so we took him straight to the portable washers in Pet barn, they are so good.
Easy enough to pick them up from Perth airport you just need your ID and AWB number which you will be supplied with once the pet is released from quarantine. Toby flew with and they have been amazing every step of the way!!! Fantastic service.

Lots of Toby cuddles now, house feels complete ❤️

We said we had something exciting to bring….
We are now Down Under Centre relocation agents in Central Perth.

Relocating to Australia is daunting enough in itself without having to worry about a rental service. DUC home search services help find you a rental to move into for when you arrive in Australia, many suburbs covered. We specifically cover central Perth nothing like being close to the city and the beach, there are agents North and South of the river too.

We can offer a range of services such as furniture being delivered and built, finding schools, school set ups, utility bills, shopping etc. the whole package!!
We have been through the process ourselves so we get the stress and emotions you go through.
If you’re interested send me a message!!
