Arrangements can be made for catering, cakes and more. Once here, there’s no need to use the car. You can swim and relax in the Spa Hall, enjoy the gardens, cook up a barbecue, play badminton, clock golf or croquet, or snuggle up in front of the open fire and watch a movie. BT Sport, SKY Sports & Movies and Wi-fi are all on hand. There are shelves of DVDs and books, and games galore, including table tennis, table football and Giant Connect 4, and for children there is a roundabout and trampoline, swings and a slide. You can picnic in the woods or set off on one of many walks around the glorious farm. 🦡🦡🦡Our large badger sett has become very depopulated over the last few years, but I noticed a lot of earth movement around an isolated outpost, so installed a nature camera and waited in anticipation. To start with nothing, but then along came two badgers, not quite the same size and thought they may be a Mum with her last years cub. Several days went by - they came and went irregularly, as if visitors living elsewhere, then suddenly a small cub appeared. My guessing is that it was born elsewhere and the three of them elected to move.......right where the nature camera can keep an eye on them!🦡🦡🦡

We love The Martlet Inn, with its great food and friendly atmosphere - we often recommend it to guests and discover they’ve loved it too! Steph occasionally helps John with some of the Dexter Showing for the farm - maybe we should be adding espresso martinis to the packing list for the North Devon Show in a few weeks time?!

Seriously worth a go! These guys have created some fascinating Treasure Trails around the country including Wellington. Even though we know our local town really well they got us finding all sorts of things we'd never noticed and it was great fun. Check them out and see if there's a Treasure trail somewhere near you.

🦌🦌New life - love it! First footage of one of at least two Roe Deer fawns born on the farm this year. Eagle eyed spotters have seen two down by the stream, but so far the nature camera has only seen one!

If you're out walking round the farm keep your eyes open - you might just bump into this guy or one of the many cute little fox cubs.🦌🦌🦊🦊🦊

🍓 It's strawberry season! Head over to Fruit Farm for some fresh, juicy strawberries. They have an honesty shop with first grade and jam grade strawberries and raspberries and they are delicious! We've taste tested lots already this year!! 🍓🍃

What a wonderful time of the year as the bird population explodes. We have several Great Spotted Woodpecker nests not far off fledging, various nest boxes that have seen Blue & Great T**s emerge, an owlet not far from its nest and swallows in the garage feeding tinies.

Click through the photos to see more of the young woodpeckers.....almost climbing out of the hole, but if you look carefully you'll see if it does....disaster...wing feathers yet to develop, so a few more days to wait patiently before they fledge.

Most gorgeous footage of our latest arrivals - already out enjoying the footpaths round the farm. Mum has been so busy bringing rabbits, pheasants, squirrels and mice to these youngsters.

Keep your eyes open for them if you're exploring - they seem to be out at all hours, presumably having little siestas in-between.

They are so, so cute 🦊🦊🦊🥰

🌝🌼Buttercups, buttercups everywhere - they add to the glorious sunny days we've been having. Their appearance is enhanced by their layer of reflective cells, which gives them their lustrous appearance. It also means that in the right conditions, they create a bright flash of light, which attracts insects from a distance.

Apparently there are over 2,000 varieties and they are ‘heliotropic’ which means they follow the sun. Wow How cool is that?🌼🌝

Hello from Elbie! 🐶 🥰🥰 She was loving the sunshine on the roof of the undercover play area - and didn’t really want to stop her snoozing for a photo shoot - love the waggy tail in the second image. Happy Elbie! 🥰🥰☀️🌤️

The dogs will often join guests on walks around the farm, or hang out with them in the garden - but we will happily take them away if you’re not a dog person!

It's been a very busy few days here on the farm and the weather gods have been with us. Large areas of the farm mown, grass allowed to do a bit of drying, rows raked together, then baled and hauled back to the farm yard. Waiting for the wrapper/stacker to arrive and then we can say job done. First batch of silage safely put away for winter fodder.

As April draws to a wet windy close I thought I’d share these photos from earlier this week - April is the month of the military child, and their flower is a dandelion! Just like dandelions, military children bloom wherever they land.

Some of the military children in our wider family are off exploring the wide world on their military adventures, and blooming where they currently are, my three happened to have landed here at Kittisford Barton and are LOVING blooming in the long lush grass!

Who would have known it - today is National Primrose Day - and yet February's Birth Flower is the Primrose and they've been flowering since January! Apparently Benjamin Disraeli who died on this day, was reportedly Queen Victoria's favourite prime minister and she sent a wreath of yellow primroses with a note referring to them being “his favourite flowers”.

Well our primroses are coming to an end, but there are so many other beautiful wildflowers bursting into bloom. I'm loving the large swathes of lesser celandines and violets that are carpeting several patches in our woods. These along with the orchids make a trip up to the woods compelling, whilst a walk along the stream is now through huge areas of wild garlic with the bluebells emerging on the slightly higher ground.

Goosey Goosey Gander wither shall thy wander…. Well, if you wander over the hill you’ll come across ‘Pointy Palace’ and their produce - some guests sampled a couple of their goose eggs last week which the children were amazed by! There was a lot of debate about the best way to cook a goose egg - anyone have their preferred method!? 🪿 🥚 🍳??!!

There are definitely some perks to ‘helping out’ with the changeover! This one got a glorious 1:1 session in the pool while I cleaned - practicing his underwater swimming, floating and bombing!

Learning to swim while on holiday is wonderful - and our pool is perfect for it - spacious, 13m long, with a large shallow end and a deep deep end! Not to mention the hot tub and sauna for everyone to enjoy too. Guests are often amazed when they see the spa hall in real life and it’s regularly a highlight of their stay.

This is quite amusing - I normally don't bother to review the nature camera's footage of pheasants - but something made me check this one through & I was surprised. Do watch with the sound on as I love the pheasant's happy chuckles at the end.

For all wildlife lovers - this is seriously worth the 1 minute watch. ‼️Spoiler alert.......there's a little twist at the end⁉️

One of our nature cameras caught this nice bit of video of a buck and doe (the correct names for male and female Roe Deer) down by the stream one night last week. Earlier footage showed the buck keenly interested in the doe - but she didn't seem so keen. Apparently they normally mate in July & August - so maybe he's just too late! Also - just for your knowledge, females delay implantation of the fertilised egg until January of the following year, so that the young are not born during the harsh winter months.

Enjoy a bit of Bank Holiday fun..... Crazy, crazy, crazy!!! This squirrel is clearly practicing to audition for a circus, or possibly the Animal Olympics gymnastics. In all the hours of footage we have on our nature cameras we've never seen such an entertaining animal.......and then it was joined by a mate.....enjoy!

Sometimes you get lucky. This nature camera caught all these from the same spot recently. Firstly a fox and a single cub, then a Tawny Owl and finally the Deer and fawn. All very close to the stream, along the footpath, down towards Watery Lane - keep your eyes peeled!

Hallelujah! Finally one of our nature cameras has captured a young badger cub venturing out and about with Mum. Typically badger cubs emerge from their underground setts at the end of March/beginning of April - and this year, despite having cameras dotted around their sett entrances, none were seen and we feared the worse. So we're delighted to see that there is new badger life on our farm. 🦡🥰🦡

🦔❤️ Love is in the air! Most nights Mrs Tiggy-Winkle walked by one of our nature cameras.....so imagine our surprise the other night when we found two hedgehogs outside our back door courting each other. They were in the dry leaves under the beech hedge and the sound track to the movie comes from them. It was wonderful to see these little creatures take interest in each other. Perhaps there will be tiny hoglets soon? Hedgehogs are amazing creatures that play a crucial role in our ecosystem. They help to control pests and are a natural form of garden pest control. So let's show some love to these little ones and do our part to protect them. 🦔🦔❤️ #hedgehogs #lovelocks #naturelovers #gardenpestcontrol #wildlifeconservation

Fascinating to see the velvet shedding from this Roe Stags antlers. Every year in early winter they drop or cast their antlers. Then begins the regrowth stage when the new antlers are covered in "velvet". This covering facilitates the growth by providing a blood supply to the growing bone. Then in early spring the velvet sheds - often with the help of the stag rubbing them against trees - probably because it's itchy.

The Cottage Beyond's very own Winterwatch.....I don't know why, but I never imagined Stoats climbing high up trees. Always seen them running all over the undergrowth and along the edge of streams. Fascinating what our Nature Cameras bring to our attention. There's no stoat emoji! 🤔😂
