🦢🏰 The tradition of Swans on the moat at The @bishopspalacewells is thought to go back to the 1850s when it is likely that a Bishop’s daughter first taught the swans to ring a bell at the Gatehouse for food.
There’s one swan bell just beneath the window on the right of the Gatehouse with a rope hanging down for the swans to pull.
This lovely tradition is still enjoyed by thousands of visitors to this day.
You can see the swans in action usually at lunchtime each day!

The swans of Wells 🦢
They have graced the @bishopspalacewells moat for centuries and still, to this day, attract crowds when they ring a bell for their food!
Wells’ iconic swans also got a mention in the blockbuster film, Hot Fuzz. Can you remember the famous quote?
Visitors to Wells can usually find the swans gracing the Palace moat and you can purchase swan food from the Palace’s Ticket Office to feed them yourselves!
Are the swans your favourite part about Wells?

Beautiful Wells this month. We love the medieval architecture and natural beauty that is dotted around the city, which, even in the rain, it looks magnificent #visitwells #visitsomerset #visitengland

Our attraction of the week is the Litton Reservoirs!
The Litton Reservoirs are two reservoirs near the village of Litton, which is just 7 miles (approx 10 mins by car) from Wells, and it is a beautiful and quaint place.
You can start the walk around the Litton reservoirs in the village and then follow footpaths north along the River Chew to reach the two pretty lakes.
Footpaths and country lanes can then be followed around the site, passing Coley and Sherborne before returning to the village.
It's a picturesque area with an impressive dam and attractive woodland surrounding the water - An excellent opportunity to walk off your Sunday roast from the The Litton!

Happy Monday!❤️
We hope you are all enjoying your bank holiday weekend!
As we’re approaching the end of August, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the past month and set goals for September!
Have a great rest of the week and remember to keep using #visitwells so we can see all your lovely photos of our beautiful city!
We had a brilliant chat with Erik Casey, the artist behind the 'No Doubt' art exhibition, at Wells Museum.
Arik discussed some of his pieces which we have featured in this video, which are on display at the museum until the 27th August.
It is a fantastic exhibition and Arik is very talented, so it's great to see his work getting recognition.
Arik spends some time during the weeks at the exhibition, so do make sure that you have a chat with him and tell him what you think about his work!
He can be contacted through his email: [email protected]
The stunning interior of Wells Cathedral😍
We are in awe of the scissor arches, implemented by William Joy in the fourteenth century. They were put in place between 1338 and 1348, they still stand today and are one of the most magnificent architectural features of Wells Cathedral.
What's your favourite part of the Cathedral?

As we start a new month and week, it’s a chance to start afresh and look forward to the month ahead of us.
