Jinka's Wagon is our lovingly restored original gypsy wagon. Located on the edge of Lanreath on the South East Coast of Cornwall between the fishing villages of Looe and Polperro the wagon is situated in our two acre meadow, with beautiful rural views. It has an adjacent cabin which contains a kitchen, shower room (double shower) with WC and wash basin. There is also a barbecue area with outdoor
table and chairs and parking is on a gravelled area next to the cabin. Dogs are welcome. The wagon's very comfy bed pulls out into a 5' 6'' x 6' double bed and the original Queenie stove is fully working for keeping you warm as toast. We have discretely added electric lighting in the form of two converted oil lamps above the fireplace which give a beautiful authentic feel. Jinkas's Wagon was built between 1890 - 1905 and is a 'Burton Wagon' in style. The Burton Wagon was particularly popular with showmen travelling between fairs. It has the distinctive " Mollycroft" raised roof and windows for extra headroom and light as well as the wheels being located under the wagon as opposed to the Reading Wagon whose rear wheels were on the outside of the wagon body. The previous owners had Jinka's for 35yrs having bought the wagon from a Kent Apple Farm where it had been left by it's Gypsy owners who had been there as seasonal apple pickers. The new owner initially lived in the wagon and it was then loaned to the Tilford Rural Life Museum. We became the proud owners of this wagon or vardo just over a year ago and it was in need of some TLC. Wanting to preserve its character and history we went about its restoration replacing rotten floorboards and beams, rubbing down, repainting and reinstating it's interior as authentically as possible. Jinka's Wagon is available to rent through Classic Cottages (http://www.classic.co.uk/holiday-cottage/desc-2875.html).
