Dee & Derek’s Chesil Vista Retreat
We are Denise (Dee to family/friends) & Derek and we live in County Durham, we moved to our present caravan at Chesil Vista in August 2019 where we like to spend holidays with our grandchildren Ellie and Duncan who live in Poole. Chesil Vista is a 5 star rated holiday park located at Wyke Regis area of Weymouth overlooking Chesil Beach with views over toward the Isle of Portland, a sister park to the larger Waterside Holiday Park at Bowleaze Cove Chesil is a smaller (less than 300 caravans/lodges) less busy park yet with good facilities to suit both ourselves, our grandchildren and our potential guests. It is situated on the main bus route between Portland and Weymouth with services running from early morning until late at night. In summer there is also a bus service to Portland Bill lighthouse. For those who like exploring the coastline the park is situated along the South West Coastal Path and there are a number of interesting routes to explore on Portland. The park offers great facilities including an outdoor play area/sports field, a good size soft play area and amusement arcade, there is also a seating area and TV’s adjacent to the soft play area all free to use with complimentary passes. There is a leisure centre (optional passes available on a day or week basis) an indoor pool and slide plus a baby pool and slide, there is also a sauna and small fitness room. For the start of the 2020 season the park installed fast improved WiFi with free access for all guests in the caravans and main building. A great range of food is served in the Trip Advisor award winning Breeze bar/restaurant where an excellent dine in menu is on offer as well as a selection of take out options and Costa coffee available from the bar. There is nightly entertainment arranged by the resident entertainment team with bingo, visiting entertainment acts and music The Venue entertainment lounge (there are limitation on seats due to social distancing) where you can order pizza to take out or eat while you watch the show. A short 5 min walk across from the holiday park is a small sheltered sand/shingle beach (Smallmouth Cove) looking out onto Portland where you can relax and enjoy the sun while the kids splash around in the water the beach extends around to Castle Cove another small secluded beach. Further along Portland Road is the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy https://wpnsa.org.uk/ and the OTC. There is a regular bus service to Weymouth town centre and Portland (First Dorset service 1) from outside the main gate to Weymouth and from bus stop in front of the cove to Portland, in summer season there is also an open top bus from Weiymouth to Portland Bill lighthouse and back. The park also has a small self service launderette (tokens from reception) unfortunately the park shop is not open this season however approx 150ydsup Portland Road there is a Central Convenience store, while further up the road is a Tesco Express and a Coop and over on the edge of Portland is a Lidl supermarket. For hot food etc on Portland Road there is a Daniels fish and chip shop, 2 Chinese takeaway restaurants, Domino’s pizza and a Subway sandwich bar. For health/medication needs there is also a small Boots pharmacy if required. Opposite Tesco Express there is a local pub ‘The Wyke Smugglers’ http://www.thewykesmugglers.com/ serving hot food at selected times, there are two restaurants within walking distance of the park - Crab house cafe https://www.crabhousecafe.co.uk/ located on waterfront below the park serving fresh seafood and Billy Winters https://billywinters.co.uk/ serving a varied menu, at the edge of Chesil beach next to information centre is the Taste cafe https://www.tastecafeatchesilbeach.co.uk and across the Portland Road bridge with further pubs/cafes/restaurants such as The Boat That Rocks https://tbtr.co.uk/ on Portland. In Weymouth town there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs serving a wide variety of food to suit most tastes.
