A great post about the most famous landmark in London, rebuilt after the Great Fire of London using Portland Stone, & designed by one of the town's MP's - Sir Christopher Wren.
in 1697, the rebuilt St Paul’s Cathedral was consecrated. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, it replaced the medieval cathedral destroyed during the Great Fire of London in 1666.
Wren’s design broke from Gothic tradition, introducing a striking Baroque style and the now-famous dome, one of the largest in the world. The reconstruction took over 30 years, with Wren himself overseeing much of the work.
St Paul’s quickly became a landmark of London, symbolising the city’s recovery from one of its greatest disasters.
