urite with our guests and sits within the grounds of a 17th century thatched Manor, one of the oldest and prettiest properties in Chickerell. Complementing the living area is a large contemporary kitchen which feels like the heart of the property due to its oak floors and warm tones of the wooden worktops and many 5 star features. Bath/shower rooms effectively one for each of the two bedrooms adds to the sense of luxury and convenience. A handcrafted stained glass fossil design window in the main bedroom echoes the attention to detail that this property enjoys. Located in Chickerell, a peaceful Dorset coastal village which is within a mile of the Fleet, the largest natural inlet of sea water in England and a haven for wildlife, Chickerell village has shops, 2 public houses, a restaurant, chemist and post office. The Turks Head, just a few minutes' walk from Fossil Barn is well regarded locally as it provides good portions of home cooked food - available both inside and in the pub garden. The village itself is just outside the town boundary of Weymouth, a Georgian seaside resort which you can dip into easily if you would like a day on the sandy beach and a walk along the pretty harbour in addition to exploring the Jurassic coast hunting for fossils which the Dorset coast is becoming world famous for and Fossil Barn is ideally placed to do. Accommodation: Stone & Oak Barn with access via Stable Door to kitchen with dining area. Solid Oak floors throughout. Large Oak Garden Room lounge. Bedroom 1, twin single or kingsized beds . Lovely review from a 2023 customer : “Fossil Barn is a beautiful property in a quiet village just outside Weymouth.”
It is spacious, well-equipped, clean, light and airy. The double bed is so comfortable and the en-suite shower powerful. The huge garden is a delight to sit in or look out on after a busy day exploring. The Turks Head, a minute walk from the barn, serves good food and the roast dinner!!!! Delicious (available as a takeaway too). We got the bus into Weymouth and a taxi back. Loved our stay & wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!

Just a few ideas for when it’s raining in Dorset ☔️

So you've come on holiday with the children and it's raining what now?

Well apart from the fact that it's the best time to swim, in the rain, how about popping to
Sandworld Sand Sculpture Festival - Weymouth where you can build sandcastles in the warm & dry
Or try Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park to see all the marine life and enjoy an underwater experience.
Perhaps pop to our indoor children's cafe with fun things to do inside The Palm House or take a bus or drive to Fantasy Island Fun Park for some great fairground rides. Don’t forget we have a great seafront and harbour with foodie heaven plus Alexandra Gardens Weymouth for some indoor amusements.

Of course there's always Cineworld Weymouth with some great films for all the family.

We also think you'll love visiting the UK's best small visitor attraction, the Nothe Fort and understanding some of the town's local history.

Perhaps book a day at The Rembrandt Hotel with swimming, spa and a great carvery.

Combine all this with a visit to the local independent shops, cafes & bars and later in the week book a few trips with Bluebird Coaches (Weymouth) Ltd or the First Bus Group Jurassic coaster to Portland or Abbotsbury and you have an itinerary with lots to do.

Also if you don't mind donning your coats then take part in a free history trail or one of the Treasure Trails across the town.

Always a pleasure to receive lovely feedback from our guests "A very comfortable clean property. Probably the best equipped kitchen we've ever had in a holiday cottage. Owners are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The garden is nice and large and very peaceful. There are two pubs within walking distance (4 and 8 minutes) which are friendly and welcoming. Nicely located for exiting the Weymouth area for exploring East & West Dorset with Dorchester a short drive away. Large supermarkets about 10 minutes drive away but there is a local shop nearby." “A lovely week spent at this beautifully restored and well equipped barn.” It felt very comfortable and welcoming to return to, after a day exploring. A good local bus service and two pubs/eateries in a short walking distance was a bonus. Would definitely recommend the take away carvery at the Turks head. Delicious and plentiful !. A big thank you for the lovely Dorset apple cake which was there as a ‘welcome’ to the Barn on arrival. Would definitely recommend Fossil Barn for a stay. - Linda, September 2022
