This Summer will see The “Galeón Andalucía” visit Whitby for 6 days in July! Among its creaking timbers the “Galeón Andalucía” tells the story of the legendary Spanish galleons in times gone by.
You can climb aboard and learn how the adventurous sailors of yesteryear sailed and lived with the ship open to the public from the 10th to 15th July 2024 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Visit the floating museum with an exhibition in which you can visit 5 of its decks.
The Galeon Andalucia is the replica of the type of vessel used by the Spanish Crown for maritime expeditions during the 16th through the 18th centuries.
Galleons were intended to discover and then establish trade routes between Spain, America and the Philippines islands, and formed the then called Fleet of the Indies.
With an innovative design at the time, galleons were armed merchant vessels which tonnages ranging from 500 to 1,200, whereas their lengths-over-all would range from 130 to 200 feet. They were designed to cross the largest oceans as efficiently as possible.

I’m very lucky to be sat on a beach in Santorini at the moment where the sunsets are known worldwide, but genuinely, they aren’t a patch on walking on the beach at Whitby and watching the sun set behind Sandsend Nab 🥰

Wow!! Staithes is just a short bus ride from Whitby well worth a visit and going on a wildlife tour.
One of two Minke Whales I was lucky enough to see when sailing out of Staithes today as a cetacean surveyor as part of a Yorkshire Coast Nature trip on board the boat All My Sons. A great survey trip seeing many Porpoise and interesting Sea Birds as well as the Whales.
We absolutely love Mr Coopers!
