You are seriously hidden away at The Hideaway this time of year. And next month there are only a couple of opportunities to enjoy the experience. There is a four night break 1st to 4th or two nights 8th to 10th July.

We are a small site with just three individually designed cabins for two adults in a wildlife haven on the edge of Whitby. Sorry no dogs

Our favourite time of year. Mark has created our vegetable garden along the lines of a French ‘potager’ - from the word potage meaning soup. It is planted so we have something to harvest all year round - and flowers for the cabins too. This month we have welcomed the first greens…..radish beetroot and turnip leaves on a daily basis. And so much more to follow

The circular walks to Whitby and Robin Hoods bay from the site are a favourite with our guests. We provide detailed instructions and maps with suggestions for shortcuts too. Many of our guests arrive by public transport (we can pick you up from Ruswarp). Enjoy long walks, sea air and a take away then return to relax in front of the log burner in a cosy cabin or fire pit under the stars

I popped down to the cabins to add a few updates to the information booklets (new copies of the circular walks to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay). I also wanted to capture what we are all about…. a place where you wake up to the sounds and sights of nature, and enjoy total seclusion until you are ready to reconnect with the world.

These are some of the views from The Hideaway and Valley View. The privacy that our cabins offer is one of the things guests love most. But don’t just take my word for it - check out some reviews:

‘You definitely feel like you are in your own space here’

‘An absolutely beautiful space right in the middle of the majestic woodland’

‘So tranquil, utterly idyllic and relaxing’

‘We were surrounded by trees and we could hear birds singing and the sounds of the stream’

‘You have your own private space’

‘ Absolutely perfect set up in awesome surroundings’.

We have three cabins, each for two people, and because we are a wildlife haven we don’t accept dogs.

We’ve been noticing that many of our guests don’t travel far to stay with us. We’ve had booking from Scarborough, Guisborough and even Hawsker. That’s because we offer a world within a world. While the delights of Whitby are close at hand each is totally self contained. You don’t have to see another soul if you want to do your own thing.

if you are hoping to stay this summer just to let you know that we don’t have any weekends left in July. But you can book a 4 night midweek break in one of our luxury cabins for £450. Our in our Treetops cosy cabin for £320.

Still a few three night weekends available in August £375. Two night breaks are available later in the year

I’ve been posting a lot about our site recently so just a reminder that each of our cabins is in its own self contained wonderland where guests can enjoy total privacy, apart from the sound of the owls and other birds and the occasional passing deer or badger.

Each of our three cabins has a unique outside chiminea or fire pit. And a log burner inside too. The Hideaway has two - one in front of the slipper bath.

New bees, new bridge, and the first of the new seasons greens. It’s been a great weekend rain and shine. For our guests this means local honey to buy very soon, and another area of our site to explore, enjoy and spend some quiet moments. We love to talk about our permaculture ethos and share tips for growing and cooking too.

We bought these numbered prints for The Hideaway in a gallery in Keswick. We thought they represented us so well……love of nature, wildlife and animals…. And a sense of fun. Then we realised that the artist Catherine J Stephenson is from Whitby. How amazing is that? The universe aligns. You can enjoy these two in The Hideaway and more at Whitby Galleries. Perhaps treat yourself to one to take home

Right from the car park, left and left again down the stone paths used by Pilgrims to the Abbey. The rain has meant it’s been a challenge for some guests to walk to the Cinder Track so we’ve prepared a map and also a list of optional routes so that confident hikers and recreational walkers can all their way. And we have a new ‘ Wellie lending library’too! Thanks to Everlong Hair, Whitbyfor the donations. If anyone else has spares we like to keep them on hand for guests who travel light

There’s so much to discover in and around The Hideway. The log burner and slipper bath in the bedroom…… Three terraces, two log burners, a chiminea and a state of the art gas barbecue. Views of the woodland and meadow, the swing seat above and stream below. Much more too….but that’s to discover when you book!

Valley View has always been our most popular cabin. It has prime position on our site just up from the waterfall and a spacious terrace with chiminea, small barbecue and undercover seating. Inside it has a luxury bathroom, kitchen, living and dining areas with both central heating and a log burner.

This year we have been busy telling you about the newly converted Hideaway, which is also pretty special. Because Valley View now has competition we still have some prime week-end slots available. Not many but if you thinking you might enjoy a romantic week-end in a secluded cabin in the woods just minutes from the Cinder Track and less than two miles from, Whitby you can still book:

14 -17 June

5 - 8 July

2- 5 August

9 -12 August.

The cost for a three night week-end is £375. And we have a few midweek slots available too.

Before you ask sorry we don't have dogs. We love them and have two of our own, but out site has a peaceful retreat feel, and our woods are a wildlife haven where we want ground nesting birds and ducklings on the stream to be undisturbed.

Treetops looking good in the sunshine ☀️
Our studio ‘cosy’ cabin is nestled at the top of the woodland.

Here’s what our last guest said about their stay:

We had a lovely peaceful weekend at Treetops. We enjoyed many walks including the Cinder Track to Whitby and the monks path with a stop at the pub on the way round. The log fire kept us lovely and warm inside the cabin and the firepit outside was a bonus to sit next to in the afternoon. The location of the cabin is very private. Would definitely recommend to others!

(NB there is central heating and an en-suite shower room too)

Happy Earth Day. The Whitby Robin Hoods Bay coastal path is one of the favourite walks from our site. The route we recommend takes in the Robin Hood and Little John stones. Legend has it that

“Robin Hood and his trusty mate, Little John, went to dine with one of the Abbots of Whitby, and, being desired by the Abbot to try how far each of them could shoot and arrow, they both shot from the top of the Abbey, and their arrows fell on the west side of Whitby Laithes, beside the lane leading from thence to Stainsacre; that of Robin Hood falling on the north side of the lane and that of Little John about a hundred feet further, on the south side of the lane.”

We're expecting sunny days and dry evenings next week (at last)........ perfect for romantic evenings outside in front of the chiminea listening to the owls. And if the forecast does let us down it's warm and cosy inside too.

To book check out Whitby Log cabins. We have three bespoke units in private woodland less than two miles from Whitby. Sorry no dogs or children. We love them both but this is a peaceful haven for adults.

The 40 minute walk from us to Whitby along the Cinder Track is a delight. It does start with 150 yards through muddy (though charming) woodland - ancient woodland in fact. Then a short climb up the former monks path, followed by a gentle downward slope all the way to Pannet Park.

You really have to experience The Hideaway to understand how many opportunities it offers to do just that. Firstly there’s its position, in its own part of the woodland with meadow views too. Then there are the three terraces catching both morning and evening sun. Inside there are two log burners, one by the sofa and DVD players and one behind the slipper bath. There’s a little dining table and a second table at the raised end of the cabin, (yes we raised one end as it’s built on a slope and we wanted to protect the tree roots) with simply the best view.

Guests at The Hideaway also report the most wildlife sightings. Barn owls are regularly seen, and deer frequent the meadow (and the woodland as we know from the loss of three a Scots pines that we planted). There’s a badger set (did you know badgers are itinerant so it’s a a holiday home), and mallards nest on the quieter stretch of river below the cabin.

A very special place

We moved to Valley View in March 2019 and have been welcoming guests to our log cabins in this very special place from day one. Many customers return several times a year, bowled over by the environment and accommodation. There is an amazing variety of walking from the site. And nearby Whitby is one of North Yorkshires favourite seaside destinations

Valley View log cabin and our studio woodland rooms nestle in our private woodland. At the end of a no through road, in the North York Moors National park, the site has with breathtaking views and a feeling of total tranquility. Yet you are only two miles from the iconic seaside town of Whitby, which can be reached on foot along the cinder track, or a 30 minute walk to Fylingdales Moor.

All our cabins have central heating, ensuite bathrooms and some cooking facilities. You can also walk through the woods to a good local pub which serves food 7 nights a week.
