August is here, meaning it is the month the moorland of the North York Moors turns a stunning shade of purple 💜

Take in the scent of summer during August. Our moorland will soon be a magnificent purple blaze as the heather flowers, alive with the buzz of honeybees, damselflies, moths and butterflies.

Three types, ling and cross leaved heath, together with deep dark pink/purple bell heather, provide the most continuous and extensive display compared to anywhere else in England.

Our trip yesterday to visit nearby enclosed beaver colony, making dams to slow the flow of water downstream to Pickering and Malton. Amazing engineers!

Just turned a swampy field into wildlife ponds, with help from funds from Farming In Protected Landscapes. Hoping for greater biodiversity soon. Already spotted a dozen dragonflies the other day.
