Our Story
Robin Hood's Bay Holiday Cottages was set up in 2006 by Julie Asher and initially dealt with just 5 cottages in lower Robin Hood's Bay. From those early beginnings, we have evolved into an efficient family-run agency with a wealth of local knowledge and a keen sense of customer service. As a young teenager in the early 1970s, Julie’s parents took her to Robin Hood's Bay for the first time, having been told that it was a must-see place. At that time, the sea wall was under construction. We stood at the top of the bank and looked down on a dirty village, full of machinery and looking like a nightmare holiday destination. Nevertheless, having come a long way, it was only fair to walk down and see it close up. It didn’t look much better but somehow she could see through the mess of construction to the beauty beneath and she felt compelled to stay. None of them could explain the hold that the village had on them but they all felt it. Thus began a lifetime of yearning to return and we she did, as often as her life would allow. 'Bay' always felt more like home to her; more so than her real home town and the many other towns in which she had lived. Josh was born and raised in Robin Hood's Bay and consequently has a wealth of local knowledge which is proving to be invaluable. In 2010, he left the coast to live in York but returned to his roots in 2015. Since then, he has relished in tackling major projects, particularly those involving technology, social media and accounts. Most recently, he has spent many a late night in bringing our new website to fruition. Thanks Josh! Rosie is Julie's daughter and Josh's wife and is the newest member of the team. She is the tyrannical office manager who keeps everything in order and running smoothly. Her time is now split between work and looking after their daughter, Harper, who was born in 2018. It could be argued therefore that Harper is actually the newest member of the team. We can now offer you 32 charming self-catering holiday cottages in Robin Hood's Bay old village; the largest selection of Bay cottages under one roof! Our office is just a few miles away in Sleights but we also work extensively in Robin Hood's Bay village. We work hard to make sure that the properties are in good order for your arrival but if you do encounter a problem during your stay, it means we are never far away. Our booking procedure is simple; you can book online or, if you prefer to chat, you can call us on the numbers below. Although there are some constraints, we try to be as flexible as we can in terms of your arrival date and the length of your stay. We are a small agency and although we are VAT registered, we do not pass this cost on to you, nor do we charge a booking fee. Our cottages and apartments are in favourable locations, catering for all needs, tastes and pockets. True and accurate descriptions means that there will be no nasty surprises on arrival and we will endeavour to work with our property-owners to ensure that your holiday is relaxing and enjoyable.
