The clouds might have been threatening in the distance but I had Llansteffan beach (almost) to myself so had great fun burying my ball, swimming and then rolling in the sand!

Would anyone like to adopt this sandy monster who followed us home from the beach this morning? Suffice to say the monster is less sandy now...the back seat of the car not quite so clean!
If you have any four legged friends who love the water and sand as much as our monster....come and stay and we'll point you in the direction of some amazing beaches!
At last...the humans have got the message about the need for labradoodles to spend time chasing stones in a river! Having a great time in the sunshine at Ffyone Waterfall.
Everyone seems to be paying far too much attention to the flowers instead of playing stones with me in the river but I guess the garden is looking very colourful at the moment!

A lovely spring day exploring ancient woodland and sites in the Preseli Hills...lambs, ponies and many lichen covered stones plus a stop at the burial chamber Pentre Ifan - aptly known as the floating stone.
Belated Easter greetings from all of us at the Post House. Events took an unexpected turn in March as the photographer fell on a slippery path resulting in a short hospital stay to address a dislocated and fractured shoulder (can't let nephews in Australia have a monopoly on all the fun at the minor injuries unit)!
With Adrian's assistance and an increase in left handed activity, we're open for business as usual so it would be lovely to see you if you fancy a few days away from the hustle and bustle.

Great fun chasing the ball and watching the tugs es**rt a tanker to its berth in Milford Haven...another beautiful sandy beach near Dale.
The weather hasn't been too kind for tree surgery this week however, with Dave's help, we have managed to disentangle and clear several fallen trees and a large stump...lots of low cloud and mud!
Visibility officially very poor at Newgale Sands yesterday afternoon however Milo and the other doggies didn't seem to mind too much. Yet another amazing sandy Pembrokeshire beach and no doggy restrictions until May (WOOF)!
A peak at the new look twin room in Red Kite Cottage. The cottage now sleeps four in a double and twin bedroom and Friday is now its main check in date.
Last week I had to supervise work (and keep out of the way) at the top of the stairs as everyone was backwards and forwards between the Post House and Kingfisher Cottage getting the stairs and landing ready for re-carpeting and finishing the shower room. Our annual maintenance period is now over (so I shouldn't have to amuse myself so much) and both cottages are open for bookings. Many woofs Milo
If anyone fancies a few days away this February half term we have availability in Red Kite Cottage from Friday Feb 9 to Friday Feb16. Given the milder weather this week, there should be snowdrops and a few daffodils in the garden by then and the beaches are amazing for doggy wanders in springtime. An update on our 2024 maintenance in Kingfisher Cottage...the downstairs ceiling and walls have had a lick of paint and the logburner has had its annual service.
We hope our Kingfisher Cottage guests weren't too fond of the avocado suite as everything in the shower room has been removed (sadly the toilet cistern and shower tray refused to come quietly and had to succumb to the hammer). The shower cubicle has now been retiled and the new suite should go in next week...photos to follow!
A very busy (and rather chilly) week but our biomass boiler installation is now complete. Last weekend Milo supervised the installation of a slab plinth for the boiler and yesterday the installation of double doors. Until the pipes were lagged, the boiler room looked like it might be turning into a distillery but it's all rather a snug fit and, sadly, there isn't much room for any distilling operations!
Snow just before breakfast this morning and Milo went into 'Snow Dog' mode! The snow wasn't very deep but impassable hairpins meant the valley was even quieter than usual and most Cwmbach residents had an at home day (good news for Milo's doggy friends).
The cottages are now closed until February 8th for their annual maintenance so Milo (Site Manager) thought you might like to know what's on the maintenance schedule.
This week will hopefully see the culmination of a project which started last October with Adrian cutting a big hole in the boiler room wall. Chris and Joe from Birds' Hill Rural Renewables have been with us this week. The old oil boiler and immersion tank have gone and a biomass boiler and a huge buffer tank have disappeared through the hole in the wall so Red Kite Cottage should soon be heated using the logs harvested from tree felling exploits in the garden.

Due to recent holiday postponements, Red Kite Cottage is now available from October 7th-14th and Kingfisher Cottage is available from October 27th-November 3rd (just in case anyone fancied a relaxing autumnal break with us in SW Wales).
PS Milo is still on the search for anyone wishing to take advantage of his July holiday discounts (we think he is worried he may have to supervise some noisy garden tasks if we don't have any guests in residence!)
It's a shame doggies can't read as whilst the box of butterfly and bee seeds said 'flowerbed can be rolled or firmed down to ensure the seeds have good contact with the soil' we think it probably meant after the seeds have been sown!
Despite the doggie 'assistance' we hope to see wild flower seedlings in the area near the pond in the weeks ahead. We had a beetle and butterfly doing a recce of the area which is promising.

More excitement at the Post House after the installation of solar panels on the garage. Laundry for the cottages (and hopefully many other tasks) will now be completed using Welsh solar juice...yippee!
It's not easy searching for and trying to pick up stones with a lampshade on! Cooling off at Ffynonne Waterfall...not very much water in the river but enough for a lovely paddle.
Adding a bit more colour beside the river - some primula candelabras, ligularia and astilbes. The task took a wee bit longer than planned because gardening operations had to be interspersed with chasing stones up and down the river but we eventually got there (plus it was a lovely cool place to be on a sunny day)!
The ropey fence team have been busy again....this time improving the two long paths in the section near the pond. Milo is temporarily back in 'lampshade mode' following an eye operation but fortunately none of the team were bumped into or knocked over during his supervisory duties!

Sunday's adventure to find Porthsychan another walk in our secret beaches book. We set off from Strumble Head along the coast path and were just about to step onto the beach and let Milo off his lead when we discovered that the beach wasn't quite as secret as we had imagined! Play suspended until late afternoon on the beach at Lower Fishguard. Not quite sure what Milo thought of his new chubby friends!
