Festival week
North Tyneside Council
🌟 It's Festival Week!
One of the region’s biggest and longest running events returns to North Tyneside this weekend.
The annual Mouth of the Tyne Festival, organised by North Tyneside Council, takes place between 11-14 July with huge outdoor shows from Ocean Colour Scene, Rick Astley, Andrew Cushin and Heather Small at the iconic Tynemouth Priory and Castle.
Other artists playing across the weekend include Roachford, Lightning Seeds, Slow Readers Club, Liam Fender and Hunni - winners of ITV’s The Voice in 2023.
There’s a big programme of free street entertainment, a colourful parade featuring local schoolchildren, a jazz stage, a pop-up silent disco and fun at Tynemouth Station alongside the usual weekly market, right across the weekend.
The event attracts around 100,000 visitors, generates around £1m for the local economy and is supported by Port of Tyne, Collingwood Insurance, The Business Factory and Aspire.
Naturally, the area will be busy and advice is to use public transport to visit the event wherever possible.
With nearly 400 spaces available, many people choose to park at Northumberland Park Metro Station and make their journey from there.
Alternatively, a free festival park and ride service will operate from Beaconsfield, next to Tynemouth Aquarium, on Saturday between 10am – 6.20pm and Sunday between 10am – 7.20pm.
As in the previous 17 years of the event, Front Street will be closed to traffic for the weekend with very limited parking, including for Blue Badge holders, available at Spanish Battery and Sea Banks.
With the festival in mind, a stretch of the new seafront cycle way between the Grand Hotel and Tynemouth Priory was specially designed to allow access for the many production and artist vehicles needed to put the event on.
For three days only (12-14 July), the cycle way will revert to a shared road northbound. Marshals will be stationed at either end to manage the temporary arrangement and answer any questions. A 10mph advisory speed limit will be in place for everyone’s safety.
All temporary arrangements will be removed on Sunday night at the conclusion of the festival.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making this year’s Mouth of the Tyne Festival a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
