We were pleased to welcome Francoise Rossignol, the Mayor of Dainville and Jean Butcher, the Lord Mayor of Canterbury onto "The Chieftain" this morning. Dainville is a town near Arras in northern France and been twinned with Whitstable for well over thirty years and is supported locally by the Whitstable Twinning Association who support local groups and young people to visit regularly...

We are delighted to be back on our berth at Whitstable after the winter overhaul in Faversham. We will be open from Good Friday for our “Round the Bay” trips subject to weather and tides. We plan to start our seal trips again in May.

We have now seen the trailer for the special episode of Saving Lives at Sea commemorating the 2024 bicentenary of the RNLI will feature the RNLI’s heroic role during World War 2.
The trailer shows Dermot O’Leary visiting historic lifeboat ‘The Chieftain’ in Whitstable to film an example of the class of boat used during WW2, including the Dunkirk evacuation.
Richard Judge, owner and skipper hosted Dermot and his film crew commenting ‘Dermot has a genuine interest in the RNLI and was impressed how a small lifeboat could play an important role during the war – we are delighted to see ‘The Chieftain’ feature in the trailer for this interesting programme’.

This month the RNLI celebrates its 200th anniversary which is an extraordinary achievement.
The Chieftain played her part in the RNLIs story for 33 years from 1949 until 1982 at Barmouth in Wales.In that time she saved 132 lives and aided many others.
We thought to celebrate this we’d share some pictures we have of her and her crews during her operational years.
Happy Bi-centenary RNLI.

Today we are looking back on what was a great year for us and “The Chieftain”. Along with all our usual trips we also had some extra excitement. In June we helped a couple ashore whose boat had broken down and was blowing offshore and we were then honoured to have Chieftain selected as one of just three National Flagships for the year by National Historic Ships UK. August saw us being visited by a small pod of Dolphins for the first time just off the Whitstable coast and then in October we had an enjoyable day filming with Dermot O’Leary for an upcoming documentary in support of the RNLIs 200th anniversary in 2024.
We are now working hard to ensure Chieftain is as smart as ever for next season which we hope to begin in April.
In the meantime , we would like to wish all our friends , supporters and guests a peaceful and prosperous New Year. We look forward to seeing you all in the future.
