Ok lets go through our IGSHD checklist… ✔ Tartan Mickey or Minnie ears (a must for any discerning Scottish Disney fan) ✔ Phone full of Disney soundtracks (with a whole playlist dedicated to Brave) ✔ Your biggest Disney smiles (if you haven’t quite mastered this, the second you get there you will) ✔ Lots of tissues (this is more for parents and family members, trust us it’s emotional) ✔ As much festive spirit as you can take (Its Christmas at Disney… if you don’t like Christmas, or Disney… well… we are not sure what to say here) Ok your pretty much all set (you just need a sprinkling of Pixie dust, we have plenty of that don’t worry), now its time to get excited for the most magical Scottish Highland Dance event of the year! Thursday 26th to Monday 30th November 2020 Come and join us at this magical time of the year and enjoy all the Disney Christmas festivities! With the exclusive, and oh so spectacular, Disney themed Choreomagic challenge at its heart, The International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance is like no other Scottish Highland Dance competition you have ever been to! (unless you are one of the amazing dancers that come back year on year of course… we like to call them our ‘Braveanistors’, they suffer from both O.D.D (Obsessive Disney Disorder) and P.D.D (Post Disney Depression) which means they can’t not be at Disney for more than a few weeks). Packed to the magical brim with themed Disney content and opportunities, the IGSHD really ticks all the boxes for a fun filled experience that you and your family and friends will simply never forget.
Let’s go through some of the spellbinding opportunities that you could be a part of in 2020! Where to start? Well we might as well start with our favourite part of the whole weekend… Choreomagic! Ok so… imagine taking your favourite Scottish Highland Dance moves, adding all the modern choreo you want, a sprinkling of amazing costumes, and then best of all its all Disney themed! You’re still not even half way to all the magic your going to experience! Add Disney judges (that have years of experience planning, choreographing and dancing in Disney shows) and Disney themed trophies and you have a challenge like no other. You can enter as a solo, duo or group across a wide range of categories and age groups, meaning there’s a chance for everyone to take part. So get your thinking hats on (with Mickey ears… obviously)… will it be Yo Ho a Pirates Life for you as Captain Jack Sparrow? Or maybe you won’t be able to ‘Let it Go’ as Anna or Elsa (or both as a duo!). Talking of duos why not get your Hakuna Matata on as Timone and Pumba, or is it time to drift up into the sky as Carl and Ellie from Up! (we have never had a Up! Choreomagic entry, and would really like one, just saying, hint hint). For groups you could be the entire cast of Mary Poppins (including the penguins, especially the penguins, please) or something a little more modern you say? Then we look forward to the first ever Scottish/Mexican combination performance from COCO! (we can imagine the mix of kilts and sombreros already). We also have an amazing Christmas themed section so you can really turn up the festive spirit with your take on your favourite Christmas themes and music! PLUS (there’s more you ask?) our unique judging means every aspect of your performance is taken into account with awards for not only 1st to 3rd place, but also special awards for Best Costume Characterisation, Best Storytelling Through Choreography and Best Musical Interpretation! All set in a modern theatre (newly opened in 2019) with plush comfy tiered seating, state of the art audio and stage lighting, giving you a show experience like no other on the Scottish Highland Dance circuit!
Ok still want more magic? Then we have just the thing for you! A Magical Pre-Parade! So picture the scene… the sun is just starting to set, the Disneyland park is twinkling and sparkling with the flicker of Christmas lights all around. Crowds of people from all around the world are lining the streets 10 deep in excited anticipation, Sleeping Beauty’s castle is shimmering in all its festive glory in the dusk light and a few flakes of magical Disney snow is still drifting through the air from the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. Then in the distance you hear it… The familiar sound of festive bagpipes from afar, smiles broaden across the faces of enchanted onlookers as the parade rounds the bend, a sea of tartan of every colour and pattern, dancing their way through the Disneyland Park proud and full of Disney sparkle, clapped and cheered along by family and friends (plus a lot of new friends enjoying the show). This only touches on the pure joy of being part of the IGSHD Disney Pre-Parade, emotions will be on a high for both dancers and family and friends, your faces are going to ache from smiling and we can guarantee it will be the proudest moment of your dancing career! A real achievement, something extra special to round off a weekend of joyous competition and performances. Parents, teachers, friends and family members, prepare yourself, if there is one thing for certain it's that your chests will swell with pride and your cheeks be covered in tears as you watch your dancers light up the Disneyland park. We cannot wait for you to experience all the Disney magic the International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance has to offer
Once again we are proud to host the IGSHD Magics Competition and The Paris International Highland Gathering Championships! In 2020 the International Gathering of Highland Dance will once again be hosting The Magics Highland Dance Competition and The Paris International Gathering Championships, giving you lots of amazing opportunities to compete in traditional Highland Dance across the weekend. The Magics Highland Dance Competition This unique competition 'The Magics' is taking place on Saturday 28th November (The Magics Premier Highland Competition) and Sunday 29th November (The Magics Primary, Beginners, Novice and Intermediate Highland Dance Competition) during the weekend of the International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance 2020 (now in its 10th year) at The Millesime Montvrain Theatre. The Gathering has become an integral part of the Scottish Highland Dance calendar with competitors having been welcomed from all over the world. The Paris International Gathering Championships To be held on Saturday 28th November 2020 during the weekend of The International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance.
