On International Women's Day I wanted to recognise the immense impact that Debbie has on our business.

Without her, our small business probably would never have started and it certainly wouldn't have been as successful as it is! I would also have never had the courage to undertake some of our more exciting adventures, particularly our trip to Peru to last year without her!

So here’s to all of the wonderful ladies out there, especially our lovely clients and our colleagues within the travel industry. Have a very special day ❤️

What a difference a day makes .....

All we have had are clear blue skies and hard pistes but as is tradition for our ski trips, the last day brought cloud and snow!

It is amazing how different the resort looks when it was snowing and with the reduced visibility navigating our way around was a little trickier than it had been.

The payoff however was the best snow conditions we have had all week 😎🎿 They were still challenging with a mix of fresh snow, ice and slush but that was still better than just ice and slush!

The fact we have improved as much as we have this week is a testament to our instructor. Gratzie Paulo!!!

Overall we have had an amazing week, it has been great to come back to Sauze after 16 years. It offers some amazing value skiing and is a perfect resort for anyone who is perhaps on their 3rd or 4th trip.

Discussions have already turned to next years resort and the countdown is on, 52 weeks to go!!

Mongenevre we missed you!

Today we should have been bringing you a blog about our day in Montgenèvre however yours truly is a bit of a clutz (makes you wonder why I love skiing so much) and managed to trip over walking to the bus 🫣
There was screaming, thankfully not from me, Debbie knows how to alert others to looking at me falling!!

Nothing serious, some cuts on my hands and a scraped knee but with the shock we decided best not to risk it and took the opportunity to have a bit of down time.

We spent a bit of time exploring Sauze's old town, sampling the best cappuccino it has to offer and also try out a pizza restaurant we have had our eyes on for a few days 🍕

The resort really does have a lovely rustic charm in parts, very different to the purpose built resort of Sestriere we visited yesterday. The pizza was amazing, BBQ pulled pork pizza anyone?

Tomorrow will be our last day and there is snow due so hopefully the visibility will be ok for us to enjoy our last day on the slopes now I just need to persuade Debbie to let me leave her sight and pick up some skis again 🤣

Sestriere....a breath of fresh air

Today was our last day of lessons and our instructor, Paulo, decided we would leave the local ski area and head over to one of the other resorts that make up the Milky Way ski area .

It was great to try out another resort and some of the mountain scenery on the way over was truly stunning. As the saying goes, Paradise isn't always tropical 🏔️

In previous years people have been able to ski over to Sestriere, climate change is having quite an impact here in the Alps, what should be high season for snow looks more like the end of the season so we had to take a chair lift then a gondola.

The slopes felt completely different and we took on some difficult terrain, with 4 days of skiing in our legs it was certainly a challenge.

Tomorrow we are heading over to France on a bus to the furthest part of the Milky Way, Montgenèvre which means an even earlier start!

So we're taking it easy on the apres ski tonight and might opt for an early night (hoping that's not famous last words) 😂

Crusing for a bruising…

I would describe our skiing style as cruisey blues, we like to take it easy and enjoy ourselves.
This week we bout a 3 days of lessons and definitely been taken out of our comfort zones. There have been a few falls, a few bruises and we’ve turned a corner practicing carving all week, we no longer worry about the reds runs.

Our instructor has been excellent and we’re definitely glad we booked lessons this week.

The ski resort is great for learning or improving skills and has some really nice runs, there’s also opportunity to ski to Sestriere or over to France if you’re a more experienced skier. One of the things that has been a bit of a pain is the bus service, they are not frequent enough and we much prefer to ski in / out. There is also a charge for the bus which is a bit different to other resorts in Europe where it’s part of your ski pass.

The other great thing about Sauze is that it is so reasonably priced for drinks and food. We stopped for some lunch on the piste today and got some delicious home made lasagne for only €12 each 😮😀 it is on a par with Andorra for prices which has been a really great surprise

So now we’ve finished day 3, we have taken the opportunity to pop to the spa to help our legs and booked ourselves in for more punishment tomorrow with an extra days lesson. Hopefully no more bruises 🤣

What’s the best thing you’ve bought when drunk?

Meet Kevin our new ginger! Last night we joined a pub crawl that Crystal ski organised, it involves free shots at every bar and we took full advantage.
Sauze D’Oulx is a great place for night life and you get fed literally everywhere with antipasti so if you love wine, cheese and meat, you’re in heaven. 😍

Italy is of course famous for amazing food and the pasta dishes here have not disappointed.

I wonder if another trip to Italy might be our next drunk purchase 😉

The greatest insult!

Today was first day in lessons, the best thing about Italians we’ve found is their ability to take the mick out of you.
We’ve heard some amazing comments today from our instructor about our ski group, “you are not on strike”, “you should sell your poles, you’re not using them”
They just kept coming 😂 part of me wanted to be rubbish so I could see what comments I got in this greatest insult competition we’d unknowingly joined!

We were mainly on red runs today which shows just how far we’ve come in the last few years and the conditions have been pretty good despite the lack of snow this year, further down the slopes are a different story, it’s quite slushy, showing that climate change is having quite an impact in the lower skiing areas.

One thing that doesn’t change is the apres ski, Sauze D’Oulx is a great place for drinks and tonight’s event is a bar crawl so if we remember much we’ll let you know how we find it

Cheers to being the greatest insult of the day tomorrow!

Fingers crossed for a longer delay 🤞

Sauze D'Oulx was the first place we went for a ski / snowboard holiday and one of the clearest memories is of the transfer bus breaking down. I didn't think that lightning would strike twice and thankfully it didn't, however this time the plane decided to instead 🤔

Nobody wants a delay on the first day of your holiday, but if you're going to have a delay of almost three hours it is certainly worth crossing those fingers and hoping that it goes past three hours so you're entitled to the delayed flight compensation........ 3 hours 10 minutes 😎

Luckily Sauze is a really quick transfer so we were at the hotel by 3pm, able to pick our skis up, head to the welcome meeting and have a drink to decompress.

We will talk more about our first night in resort tomorrow, thankfully lessons start at 11am on the first day, so tonight we pre apres ski!

‘Twas the night before holiday and packing was done, now to share our secret a little airport run.
Instead of queuing for what feels like a day we breezed through check in and was seen straight away
Beware though of the hubby and packing too many things, he had to take a few items out and realize he can’t travel like kings

This time next week we will be jetting off for our annual ski trip ⛷, this time to Sauze D'oulx in Italy 🇮🇹

We actually took our first ski trip here in 2009 and haven't been back since, so it will be great to see how the resort has changed and also see a bit more of the mountain!
