Walking Locally
The area is one of the more remote and lesser-known parts of the Lake District but boasts some outstanding scenery and some of the best, less frequented walking in the whole of the Lake District National Park.
There is a magnificent Beck-side walk from the front door to the centre of Caldbeck (25mins) which must not be missed!
Skiddaw (4th highest in England at 3053 feet high) and Blencathra (2847 feet high) can be reached from the North along quieter footpaths than the usual approaches.
There are many other fine fells to explore such as High Pike and Carrock Fell and Binsey.
Distances to each Lake
• Bassenthwaite– 8 miles (15 mins)
• Derwentwater – 17 miles (30 mins)
• Thirlmere – 22 miles (35 mins)
• Ullswater – 19 miles (40 mins)
• Loweswater – 19 miles (40 mins)
• Buttermere – 22 miles (47 mins)
• Windermere – 33 miles (1hr)
• Coniston Water – 39 miles (1 hr 20mins)
Cycling
Bikes can be stored securely. The local roads are quiet and perfect for riding with some challenging hills in all directions from the front door. Or even just watch the cyclist ride by from time to time and relax.
Places on the coast to visit
• Allonby - 20 miles (30 mins)
• St Bees - 33 miles (55 mins)
