We are delighted that the talented Yanina Stockings of Green Spiral Willow Baskets is bringing another of her wonderful workshops to the museum.

This adult workshop is suitable for beginners and improvers. You’ll work with 6’ flexible lengths of willow to create a sturdy rustic garden planter, which will last for years to come.

This would make the perfect creative day out with mum for Mother’s Day or, indeed, a Mother’s Day gift itself!

These workshops are always very popular and numbers are limited, so booking through our website is essential. https://museumofeastdorset.co.uk/project/large-willow-garden-planter-workshop/

The cost is £70, which includes materials and a hot drink.

Getting Started in Family History – A workshop on the basics Saturday 12th February 10am-4pm £5 per person. Booking essential Family history is a fascinating and increasingly popular hobby and thanks to the many records available, it’s easy to get started. With knowledgeable support and advice from local members of the Somerset & Dorset Family History Society, you can begin to trace the history of your family. We will show you how to start a family tree and introduce you to research sites on the internet, also making use of any resources you can bring along. Although this is one off starter workshop, we would hope to have some follow up shorter sessions.

Date: Thursday 21st October 2.30pm £10 Book here: https://museumofeastdorset.co.uk/project/tuberculosis-at-iron-age-tarrant-hinton/ The discovery of tuberculosis in a prehistoric skeleton at Tarrant Hinton in the late 1980s made national headlines and has made the site internationally known in the scientific community. The man, who died between 400 and 230 BC, is the earliest case of TB ever found in Britain. The Iron Age TB skeleton is on display in the Life and Death Gallery at the Museum of East Dorset. Join Dr Simon Mays of English Heritage at the museum as he discusses what the disease might have meant for this person and his community, and what its wider significance might be. Simon will also discuss some of the issues which arise in presenting findings on skeletal remains to the public and how they are dealt with by the media.
