After a busy lambing the pace slows a little on the farm. Sheep work at the moment includes treating them for flies, giving a vaccination against clostridial infections and dosing with a vitamin supplement.

🌳On Sunday we brought together the whole Matson Ground community to celebrate 100 years of stewardship of this special corner of Cumbria. It was a wonderful occasion and opportunity to thank everyone that helps and has helped to make this place what it is. Thank you on another note to all the brilliant Cumbrian suppliers who helped make it such a great day and the local business who generously gave prizes to our charity raffle, which raised over £1,000 for Cumbria Community Foundation

You might never think about wetlands but we do! They are such important habitat for a wide variety of species, it’s something we are working on creating more of across the estate.
This is one of the newest areas of wetland created as part of our ongoing work with Natural England and South Cumbria Rivers Trust. It was previously an unproductive piece of lowland, prone to flooding. By fencing off areas and opening up drains, the ponds were created and nature flocked in!
It’s now a wonderful habitat for birds, butterflies, moths, crayfish, freshwater leaches and invertebrates.
