❄️ The Long Walk, Windsor Great Park.

One of the most iconic walks in Windsor, if not the South East of England is The Long Walk. Created by King Charles II in 1682-85, this tree-lined avenue stretches almost 2.5 miles from Windsor Great Park down to Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world.

At the highest point, standing over the iconic view, is the famous Copper Horse statue depicting King George III. It was erected in 1831 to commemorate the King’s significant contribution to Windsor Great Park.

Popular with locals and visitors alike, walking this route is a joy at any time of year. Please note that the Long Walk passes through the Deer Park, which does have to be closed at certain times of year, for rutting or birthing for example - so do always check ahead of making a special journey.

There are lots of cafes, restaurants and pubs at the town end of the Long Walk for pre or post walk refreshments.

👣 How about a lovely New Year walk through Eton?

📍Eton is just 10 minutes stroll from Windsor town centre, over the 200 year old pedestrianised Windsor Bridge that connects the two towns. Alternatively there is plenty of parking Eton side, and both Windsor & Eton Riverside (SWR) and Windsor & Eton Central (GWR) stations are less than 5 minutes walk.

🎄Full of history and beautiful architecture Eton is a lovely day out, and until 5th January there is a special Children's Trail...

📞 ...will you be able to find Eton's famous blue Telephone Box? It's well known locally and painted in the historic greenish pale blue of the Eton College sports and rowing kits!

💡Will you spot the iconic Burning Bush lamp?

🕴🏼Will you be able to find the iconic Antony Gormley statue?!

☕There are lots of independent cafes and charactful traditional Pubs along Eton's historic High Street, so plenty of places to stop for a warming hot chocolate or mulled wine!

👟You can download the fascinating Eton Walkway guide for free, or purchase printed copy for £2 in the Eton Information Centre.

https://www.windsor.gov.uk/things-to-do/the-eton-walkway-p1405401

🩵 You can also pick up a copy of their FREE children's trail - and be in with a chance of winning some marvellous prizes from some of Eton's indie cafes, and the wonderful Theatre Royal Windsor - currently showing Dick Whittington Panto!

🍷Windsor and Eton are home to some beautiful, traditional and characterful pubs.

🔥The days between Christmas and New Year are a lovely time to explore them - many have roaring log fires, locally brewed beers on tap and several with selections of board games to keep the family entertained.

❄️ Why not combine a 'Twixmas' walk with a stop off for lunch, a coffee or a warming winter drink?
