Superstar DJs and the a-list: what is it like to manage travel for some of the biggest names in entertainment?

A disrupted flight is a nuisance for most people, but for some Detonate Travel clients the implications can be far reaching.

“A flight being cancelled at the beginning of the tour can put the whole tour in jeopardy” says Alison Rodgers, Head of VIP & Entertainment Travel at Detonate, the specialist brand that has been looking after the travel needs of , , and professionals for 30 years.

A delayed or cancelled tour could seriously affect the livelihood of a DJ or band, not to mention the knock-on effect to the supporting crew and the prospect of disappointing thousands of fans too. That’s why it’s critical for the team at Detonate to thoroughly understand their clients’ business and provide experienced support whenever it’s required.

Alison has been managing travel for this sector for several decades and has looked after everyone from superstar DJs to smaller bands just starting out, with plenty of a-list household names thrown into the mix.

Hypersonic plane to travel from New York to London in one hour

The UK Space Agency announced its plan for a "space plane" that will travel between New York and London in one hour, and it's expected to hit the sky by the 2030s. In that case, insanely fast passenger aircraft will fly at Mach 5.4, which means really fast.

On Tuesday, at the UK space conference in Wales, the UK Space Agency CEO revealed that this high tech plane or rocket shuttle would be powered by a hypersonic engine. These speed capabilities will change air travel, capable of traveling five minutes at the speed of sound.

And shockingly enough, the Sabre (Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine) engine is fitted with a complex cooling system, far beyond what any typical aircraft would carry. The engine isn't terrible for the environment, will reportedly make a hypersonic travel option for commercial passengers. The main thing is to start the engine is like a hybrid of a rocket and an aero-engine fuelled by the combination of Oxygen, hydrogen, so it allows a rocket to breathe air. SABRE is supposedly greener and cheaper than current travel.

Sabre Advances in Technology and New Trends

According to the Program Director Shaun Driscoll of Reaction Engines at the conference, heat has been the limiting factor. The pre-coolers are critical in the plane development because it contains liquid helium that can cool engine from more than 10, 000 degree Celsius to room temperature in one-twentieth of a second.

Sabre is intended to provide a lightweight, efficient propulsion system to create a space plane that draws Oxygen into the engine to use for combustion from take off until it reaches just over 4000 mph. Sabre is intended to carry a much lighter and convenient rocket engine because it would carry less fuel oxidant and a 50% faster engine than the supersonic turbojet Concorde

The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is growing everyday and has devastated so many people's lives, including the family of our much-loved staff member Svitlana. Her father and sister had to flee from Ukraine, leaving everything behind. We have set up a funding page to help Svitlana with arrangements to bring her family to the UK. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

EasyJet wants to be the UK’s frontrunner in emission-free hydrogen-powered commercial flights.

It will work with Cranfield Aerospace Solutions (CAeS) to develop the company’s hydrogen fuel cell system for commercial aircraft.

It could operate hydrogen flights by 2030, it says.

Cranfield Aerospace has an existing prototype of a small Britten-Norman Islander aircraft, which is expected to be in operation by 2023.

Depending on progress, easyJet could become the world’s first major airline to fly hydrogen powered aircraft at scale.

BRITISH AIRWAYS PARENT IAG SIGNS SUSTAINABLE FUEL DEAL

British Airways owner IAG has committed to a Sustainable Aviation Fuel contract with a US producer.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel is a key part of British Airways' BA Better World initiative
The deal with Velocys will see BA, Iberia and Aer Lingus use SAF produced at the Bayou Fuels project in Mississippi.

IAG has committed to 73 million gallons of SAF, which after blending, will produce 192 million gallons over 10 years from 2026, when the plant will begin production. IAG has committed to one-third of the plant’s output, with the remainder being taken by US budget carrier Southwest Airlines.

IAG said the deal would enable it to cut annual emissions by two million tonnes by 2030. “This equates to removing one million cars from Europe’s roads each year,” it added.

However, the proportion is likely to be small in comparison with IAG’s total fuel needs for its fleet of more than 530 aircraft. By comparison, United Airlines, with a fleet of 850, uses four billion gallons of conventional fuel each year.

The Bayou plant uses a combination of agricultural waste, renewable power and carbon capture and storage to produce SAF.
