How exciting! A day or so ago we heard a cuckoo here at Wheatland Farm but failed to get a recording. The next day we heard it again, but with a three note call. Now we come to look it up it seems this is usually the duetting call of a male in a courting pair.

While we feel sorry for the songbird destined to work hard to raise cuckoo chicks, it would be fabulous to think Wheatland Farm and Popehouse Moor SSSI was supporting cuckoos. It's not every year that we even hear one unless we go to Dartmoor.

Smoking kills – we all know this, that’s why to***co advertising was banned in 2002 🚬😵

But fossil fuels kill too, a study in the BMJ estimates 5.1M deaths are attributable to fossil fuels every year, worldwide.

That's why I'm calling on the UK Govt to ban fossil fuel advertising too– for too long these companies have had largely unlimited monies to greenwash their filthy reputations.

Help me reach 100K before May 12th to trigger a Parliamentary debate- sign the petition now govpetition.uk/700024

Holidays With Heart - Wheatland Farm

Wheatland Farm is a conservation project in the glorious Devon Countryside, and when you stay you’re automatically part of it. That’s because it’s our 5 low carbon lodges and cottage that fund wildlife management across our 21 acres. With about 200 species of flowering plants, 50+ species of birds, deer, foxes, badgers and masses of butterflies and dragonflies, there’s wildlife to spot all year round. Take your time, reconnect, and know you’re part of something positive.

Wheatland Farm is a Finalist in the 2019 Devon Tourism Awards, Ethical Responsible and Sustainable Category.
