Can't be too careful with winter strimming! It's got to be done, sometimes, but we're checking every hump that looks distinctly round. This will get its leaves back, and a bit of extra cover too.

Got to love a hedgehog at the door... Last week one was rootling around in the wellies.

They're fast when they want to be. We disturbed this one when we went out to close up, but when it came out of it's ball shape it certainly scampered off.

Yay! Just heard the first chiff chaff of the year. That, combined with nearly daily bumblebee noises, surely heralds the lighter, warmer months. No picture, just the call, so here's the RSPB's page on these, our first spring migrants.

Ian had his nose to the grindstone at yesterday's Crediton Repair Cafe where spring was in the air and lots of garden tools needed sharpening up!

The fox is back - Maria Mor took these slightly distant phone pictures from Honeysuckle Lodge balcony this afternoon. It was hunting small mammals in the grass we've left long over winter. It looks in reasonable shape - just not as glorious as summer pictures with lush grass and flowers!

It's a stunning day out there, but in this cold snap not everyone is keen on being woken up. We're strimming super carefully around the lodges, in case of hibernating hedgehogs, or dormice. This lovely toad we found the other day when we were weeding. We relocated it to the poly tunnel where it's a shade warmer and there might also be some food.
