Alps and Dolomites Grand Tour Day 6. Ride out or rest day, not surprisingly everyone decided to pick the ride out option. The roads and scenery in the Dolomites are really not to be missed, with a mixture of switch backs and long sweeping bends it really is a bikers paradise. Many a pass ridden, coffees drunk, and the odd panini eaten led to a perfect day. All finished off with a wonderful meal in a traditional trattoria.

Day 5 Spain and Portugal Tour had the option of a rest day or a ride out around the Costa da Morte. Two of the team decided to have a rest day and explore the wonderful city of Santiago. Visiting the cathedral, the associated museum and taking in the cities atmosphere. The rest of the group hit the road for the ride out option. Visiting the Virgin de Baca and then onto Cap Finestre which according to the Romans was the end of the civilised world and you can see why as the Atlantic Ocean disappears into the distance at the most westerly point of mainland Europe. As the day went on the weather cleared to give us a sunny day and perfect riding conditions as we headed back to our hotel, after a great day ridingaround the dramatic coastline of this corner of Spain. Fingers crossed the weather gods will be on our side tomorrow as we head down to Portugal.

Alps and Dolomites Grand Tour Day 4. Choices choices! Half the group decided to take a trip to Hitlers Eagles Nest while the rest of us hit the Grossglockner for the day. Glorious weather all day which just added to the spectacular views. A ride up the cobbles to Riders Point and then onto the glacier with lunch and coffee stops with wonderful vista's. The Grossglockner really is a bucket list road and the photos really don't do it justice and the best bit is we get to ride it all again tomorrow on our journey down to the Dolomites 👍🏍👌

Day 4 Spain and Portugal Tour and our journey continues west. We climbed the Puerto del Palo on a fabulous road which has wonderful views across the surrounding countryside. A stop at a hydro electric dam built back in the 50's and a fascinating lesson in the construction of dam's from Alastair. Onto coffee and across into Galicia, where the scenery changes to more pine forests rather than agricultural land. Some sublime sweeping roads with again a fantastic road surface took us to our lunch stop. We travelled on and reached our destination Santiago de Compostela where we stay for the next 2 nights in a fabulous hotel which is part of a convent and close to all the tapas bars and restaurants. Another brilliant day finished off with a visit to a tapas bar to sample the varied local delicacies. 😋.

Austrian and Swiss Alps Tour Day 4. Another beautiful day for a ride as we headed away from Bavaria and across into Austria. As we cross into Austria the scenery changes dramatically, riding with mountain peaks to each side beside lush green meadows. We soon hit our 1st pass of the day which takes us up to our lunch stop in a ski resort. Every time we come here there are cows randomly wandering along the main street oblivious to the traffic, just doing their own thing. After lunch it's a relatively short ride to our hotel, giving everyone the opportunity to use the spa and plunge pool if they wish or have a wander around town before dinner. We have a 2 night stay in Austria and the main choice for tomorrow's ride out is the Grossglockner and the weather is looking good 👍

Day 1 Black Forest & Vosges Tour 2024. Our day started at Le Shuttle with hand shakes, introductions and fingers crossed for good weather as we headed off across France. Lunch taken, we turn our sat navs to avoid motorways which is the theme for the rest of the tour. Taking back roads all afternoon, with the rain holding off for us, but it was a tad breezy at times to say the least. A stop for photos at Circuit de Reims-Gueux and then onto our hotel in the lovely town of Challons en Champagne. Off to the Black Forest in the morning and Baden Baden. 👌👍🙂

Day 2 Spain and Portugal Tour, following disembarkation and the usual passport procedures in Santander we headed off into the hills surrounding the city and on towards the Picos. A coffee stop and refuel for those that needed either or both and then onto our first photo opportunity, unfortunately the weather closed in on us a little, no rain just a little misty. Photo stop completed, spirits not dampened, we continued on with our route taking us back to the northern cantabrian coastline and onto our hotel for the evening.

After crossing to France on the Eurotunnel we head south east to our first overnight stop. We head towards Germany via the superb Vosges Mountains stopping overnight at the start of the B500. We start our next day on this epic road, before heading across southern Bavaria and a two night stay close to the Grossglockner. Rest day or a choice of ride outs the following day including the option of a full day exploring the famous Grossglockner high alpine road which at 8215 feet is the highest mountain pass in Austria.
We then head towards Italy crossing the Southern Tyrol area and towards the beautiful mountain landscapes, sheer cliffs and rocky outcrops of the Dolomites.
We have a full day to explore the Dolomites including Passo Campolongo, Passo Gardena and Passo San Pellegrino Then it’s off to the shores of Lake Garda for a 2 night stay. Pick a ride out or spend the day on the lake hopping from picturesque lake side town to lake side town or head over to the cable car at Malcesine which will take you to the top of Monte Baldo for breath taking views over Lake Garda.
Its back on the bikes heading towards the pretty Spa town of Bormio and the start of the famous Stelvio pass. We have 2 route options today one taking in the both east and west sides of Stelvio and the other slightly shorter utilising the Umbrial Pass. Crossing into Switzerland we head to our next 2-night stop via the Oberalpstrasse passing some famous 007 film locations en route to a typical alpine hotel.
We ride the 5 passes of the Andermatt loop its actually 6 passes in total but who’s counting! Stunning scenery, sweeping bends and switchbacks.
Heading away from the Alps back towards France we reach the Vosges Mountains for our overnight stop. Heading across open French countryside the following day using the Route des Cretes before reaching our overnight stay next to the Semois River.
Our final day starts with a visit to the Chimay Classic Road Circuit which is still actively used to this day. Back into France for the last leg of our trip up to the tunnel and the crossing back to the UK.

Day One of our Spain and Portugal Tour has riders converge at Plymouth from all corners of the UK. It's great to meet up with familiar faces and new ones on a lovely sunny day. We had a very smooth crossing on our way down to Santander, with the ferry giving a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and swap previous touring stories.

Route Napoléon, Comb Laval, Gorge du Verdon Tour Day 10. Our last ride on our last tour for 2024 took us to Le Shuttle via the Reims Gueux Circuit for a photo stop. A smooth run up to the tunnel and an earlier than booked train even though we were told at check-in there were delays of upto an hour and a half😉.

Another brilliant tour comes to a close as does the 2024 season for Columbus Motorcycle Tours. What an excellent year its been, fantastic groups on every tour from all walks of life, all with a common love of motorbikes and getting out there and using them. Thanks to everyone who came along its been an absolute pleasure to meet you and of course guide for you.

Hope to see as many of you as possible again next year and keep an eye out for some new tours we are finalising for 2025!

Route Napoléon, Comb Laval Gorge du Verdon Day 9. Much checking of weather apps this morning as we had heavy rain overnight, but in the end all was good with the weather gods as we headed further north through the never-ending French countryside. Sweeping bend after sweeping bend on D Road after D Road, which definitely met with everyone's approval judging by the smiles at our various stops during the day👍😀. Onwards to our last hotel on tour in the lovely town of Challons en Champagne. A great evening with not surprisingly the topic of discussion being which were the best roads, best scenery and which tour will be picked next. Off to the tunnel tomorrow.

Route Napoléon, Comb Laval, Gorge du Verdon Tour Day 8. Another day of riding some fabulous Alpine passes awaited us as we left Italy and crossed back into France. Col de l'Iseran being the highlight and also the highest pass in Europe. Heading away from the cool temperatures of Alps and back past Lake Annecy where we stopped for a delicious ice cream by the lake side. Ice creams finished it was time to move on towards our hotel for the evening and a lovely meal in a local brasserie to finish a brilliant day of riding and spectacular scenery.

Route Napoléon, Comb Laval, Gorge du Verdon Tour Day 7. Our ride today takes us due north with a multitude of passes to navigate. We head through the Mercantor National Park heading towards Col de la Bonette stopping at Le Camp des Fourches a disused military base, which must have been a very bleak place to be stationed in the winter. Onto the summit, photos taken and its off to our next pass of the day Col du Vars. Not sure how many hairpins you can fit into one day, but we managed quite a few! Our hotel for the evening is in an Italian ski resort, so of course its off for pizza for dinner, would be rude not to being in Italy. More passes tomorrow including the highest in Europe👍
