Surrey Hills Carriages Welcome to the official page for Surrey Hills Carriage Company. News of what we are up to, places to see us and have a wagon ride or shows we attend.

Surrey Hills Carriage Company is a family effort. Run by Emma Burrell with help from her long suffering husband Richard and assistance from her sister and her mad family. We provide carriages rides around the beautiful Surrey Hills AONB, as well as weddings, schools proms and trips for other special occasions. We can also carry out horse powered timber extraction and bracken control. We love our w

ork and really enjoy getting to know you, our customer and making your day memorable for all the right reasons. We travel anywhere in the Surrey/Kent/Sussex/Berkshire areas, all we ask is that there is somewhere safe to park our lorry, unload and hitch in. Our horse is a stunning French Comtois called Tamise. She is 8 years old and loves her job. Tamise is very friendly, loves being made a fuss of and nothing phases her. For those wishing to learn to drive she is a very willing teacher. We also have Heather in training who is a 6 year old British Bred Percheron.

Maternity leave and honeymoon officially over!
Wedding today in the glorious sunshine. Pick up from The Berystede Hotel ending at Coworth Park. Melissa was a stunningly beautiful bride, her outdoor ceremony was just perfect.
And when a helicopter landed we just had to pose next to it.

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes on the birth of Alexander.
He’s yet to meet the girls, here he is “supervising” at the stables. I personally think he’s sleeping on the job!

Got my teaching mojo back and firmly on the box seat.
Second session for the lovely Becca, Tamise’s latest student. Becca’s rein handling is good. So now we work on familiarity with harnessing, hitching in and mileage under the belt, along with different methods of rein handling.

Look what Tamise was guarding in the field this morning. Very under weight and covered in maggots.
Fortunately I work in the best place for emergency immediate care, and had a day off work. So a road trip to Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital was had.

Please note I don’t advocate taking animals from the wild. Only picked up this little one as my original thought was early stages of myxomatosis, and get a vet to end his suffering.

This is the last time I ask the stable boy to brush Tamise off!

Our Story

Surrey Hills Carriage Company is run by Emma as a part-time job and hobby. The main aims being to introduce more people to working heavy horse and to showcase what can be done with a well trained horse. We provide carriages rides around the beautiful Surrey countryside, as well as weddings, schools proms and trips for other special occasions. We can also carry out horse powered timber extraction and bracken control. We also take part in local ploughing matches and are part of the RLC Heritage display team, pulling the WW1 Mk2 horse ambulance. We love our work and really enjoy getting to know you, our customer and making your day memorable for all the right reasons. We travel anywhere in the Surrey/Kent/Sussex/Berkshire areas, all we ask is that there is somewhere safe to park our lorry, unload and hitch in. Our horse is a stunning French Comtois called Tamise. She is 11 years old and loves her job. Tamise is very friendly, loves being made a fuss of and nothing phases her. For those wishing to learn to drive she is a very willing teacher. We also have Heather in training who is a 8 year old British Bred Percheron. Heather shows more of an inclination to be a ridden horse than a carriage horse.
