One of our volunteers Pam snapped a picture of this little lizard whilst she was on a visitor welcome patrol, engaging with the public and checking a route for any issues.

We are always looking for more volunteers to help out around the Park. We have a range of volunteer opportunities from doing practical tasks to improve and maintain the Park, to hosting guided walks to introduce visitors to the landscape, culture, and history of the Park.

If you are interested in volunteering for the park, visit our website for more information.

Ospreys are a fantastic example of a species that has recovered in Northumberland!

For many years, ospreys were seen passing through Kielder without stopping, always on the way north to more long-standing nesting sites in Scotland. As more and more of the best nesting spots were taken it was just a matter of time before they stayed south of the border. To encourage this, Forestry England installed a number of platforms around the Forest after a failed attempt to nest by two young birds in 2008. This paid off, as following an absence of about 200 years in Northumberland, ospreys returned to nest at Kielder in 2009. The population has grown year on year, and the offspring of Kielder birds are now nesting in a number of locations in Scotland, England and Wales.

This year’s birds will be heading on migration in the next few weeks, so if you want to see them in the flesh, head up to Kielder asap! Our Osprey Watch is running on weekends and Wednesdays until Sunday 18th August.

You can also watch a live broadcast from the nest at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1xNy-elK0Q
