The Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, is made up of Spitsbergen and the three smaller islands of Nordaustlandet, Barentsøya and Edgeøya is also, and more appropriately known as the ‘Wildlife Capital of the Arctic’. The birding is wonderful with species ranging from little auks to Brunnich’s guillemots; whilst whales, seals and Arctic foxes are often seen as well as walruses lounging on their ‘personal’ ice floes. However, this of course is Polar bear country and one of the very best places in the world to see them. May to August are the best months to visit as the waters are easier for the boats navigate and the bears follow the pack ice on the look out for prey.
We can offer up to 30% off on a 07 May 2025 departure or 25% off on a 02 July 2025 departure with Quark Expeditions.

N A M I B I A

There are precious few places left on Earth quite like Namibia. The sheer scale of Namibia’s natural wonders, so scarred and ravaged by time, is one of its most distinguishing and awe-inspiring features. Yet within these desolate landscapes, the miracle of life appears all around. Desert-adapted elephant, lion, zebra, antelope, sprawling colonies of breeding seals and many other species emerge, including the critically endangered black rhino. Endless horizons beckon the adventurous to hit the open road in a 4x4 and explore this remarkable country that boasts sand dunes the size of mountains in Sossusvlei, Damaraland’s Petrified Forest with trees as old as 280 million years, Twyfelfontein’s ancient rock art, Big 5 game viewing in Etosha and some of Africa’s finest big cat conservation at Okonjima.

Although the Atacama Desert and the stunning Torres del Paine National park tend to steal the limelight, the remote Aysen Region is a rarely visited and sparsely populated area of southern Chile which is home to a wealth of natural wonders including vast glaciers, aquamarine rivers and snow-capped mountains as well as Andean condors, guanacos and pumas. The Carretera Austral or Southern Highway winds its way south for about 1,240 kms from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins passing through equally extraordinary Patagonian scenery and is one of South America’s most exciting road trips

Whether you want to drive it, hike it, bike it, raft it, climb it or watch it, Canada’s stunning Eastern Atlantic coastal region has it all. Encompassing many rivers, pine forests, mountains and beaches New Brunswick is all about getting outside and revelling in the great outdoors. The Bay of Fundy is famed for having the most extreme tides in the world; Halifax boasts the star-shaped Fort George and the best lobsters can be found at Shediac. And yet at the very heart of this region is The Cabot Trail, a scenic highway on Cape Breton Island that loops around its northern tip offering a world of quaint fishing villages, stunning National Parks and a fascinating insight into its rich Scottish heritage.

Our hearts go out to our friends in Morocco 💔

Many of you will have seen the news about the devastating earthquake that took place in Morocco late last Friday evening. The epicentre occurred in the Atlas Mountains and there has been significant damage and loss of life in some of these remote villages.
In case anybody would like to help but is unsure how to, then two excellent charitable foundations are the EFA Foundation https://www.efamorocco.org/ and the TravelLink Foundation https://travellinkfoundation.org/ both of which do incredible work with the local communities.
We have been liaising with our partners in Morocco since the earthquake on how we can all help and the message is loud and clear that although the next few weeks will inevitably be focused on looking after those affected and getting back to normal, after that the best way is to encourage tourism on which the country is so heavily dependent. Much of the country was physically unaffected by the quake and is operating as normal, but helping to increase tourism will gradually help to mend the psychological damage, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to plan a trip to Morocco in due course. It will help them enormously!

Egypt is quite simply a living museum with an astonishing wealth of history that never ceases to amaze those who visit this exotic melting pot of cultures and traditions. From the ancient Pharaohs, who ruled one of the world’s greatest ever dynasties for almost 3,000 years, to the Romans, Ottoman Turks and British who sought to occupy it, Egypt continues to exert an aura of fascination and timeless drama.

A cruise on the Nile is the most relaxing and enjoyable way to discover the true source of Egypt’s fabled history and the reason for its rise in status to become one of the world’s earliest and greatest civilisations. Likened by the ancient Egyptians to a lotus flower – the Delta being the flower and its valley the stem – the Nile is nothing short of the lifeblood of the country, creating the fertile soils necessary to grow abundant maize, sugar-cane, wheat and other vegetables and fruits.

As the world’s longest river, the Nile stretches for a total length of some 6680 km – originating as the White Nile from Lake Victoria in Uganda and as the Blue Nile from Lake Tana in the Ethiopian Highlands – the two rivers converge at Khartoum before flowing northwards into the Mediterranean.

Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is accessed through Labuan Bajo. The park’s 29 islands are situated off the coast between Sumbawa and Flores.

The park was founded in 1980 to protect the Komodo Dragon, the world's largest lizard.

With an official count of more than 1,000 types of fish and 260 types of corals, the warm tropical waters of Komodo National Park are one of the most species-rich underwater environments on earth and the diving here is often ranked as some of the best in the world.

As a source of food, irrigation, trade and transport, the River Nile has been at the heart of Egyptian society for thousands of years as it’s life-giving waters thread through the desert. A cruise is one of the best ways to experience this incredible ribbon of life as you slowly sail between two extraordinary cities that date back to antiquity. Aswan was an important frontier town of ancient Egypt, whilst Thebes (modern-day Luxor) was the pharaohs’ capital at the height of their power and both cities are like open-air museums full of incredible ancient monuments When combined with a few days in Cairo, this offers a fabulous journey through the ancient tombs, temples and souks of ancient Egypt

The Galapagos

In 1835 Charles Darwin visited the islands and discovered this ‘living laboratory' which inspired his book The Origin of the Species about the theory of evolution. Lying 1000 kilometres off Ecuador's coastline, The Galapagos Islands’ archipelago consists of around 20 principal islands and scores of islets that are home to an extraordinary diversity of land and marine wildlife including the many species of finches that so inspired Darwin’s theory. What makes a journey here so special and unique is that due to the lack of predation, they show almost no fear of humans which allows for so many truly unique wildlife encounters.
Walking around soda lakes full of flamingos; snorkelling with playful sealions or simply relaxing on your boat enjoying a classic Galapagos sunset is hard to beat
