Qualified in advanced garden design, tree surgery and horticulture. GUNS TO ROSES
Most men, after a long career in the Armed Forces, seek a job involving security in some form – maritime, bodyguarding, commercial security; or becoming physical education teachers/personal trainers. But this did not appeal to Royal Marine Colour Sergeant Ed Ramsbottom; who after 27 years wearing the green beret has
started his own business offering garden design, tree surgery and garden services. Achieving RHS Level 1 and 2 Horticulture at Kingston Maurward College evening classes, Ed added to his qualifications and trained as a tree surgeon, hard landscaper and garden designer while still in the Royal Marines. A lifelong interest in gardens, landscapes, historic buildings and architecture meant he’d often encountered the Green Man carvings most commonly found in churches; and decided that this ancient symbol of the regenerative power of Nature and spirit of the forest; together with the implication of “green” as in green-fingered, also fitted in very well with the fact that he’d worn a green beret for so many years – hence the name of the business. A talented artist as well as qualified in technical drawing, Ed ‘s garden plans are astoundingly detailed and beautiful works of art in their own right - all drawn by hand, not using CAD. He is also a highly skilled craftsman who has created complicated and unusual designs and features, for example circular brick patte d’oie; herringbone steps and tapered brick-edged circular ponds, all his own designs. He loves restoration work in particular and is fascinated by old encaustic tiled floors – he’s created some of his own designs as well as recreated classic patterns in his own home. Ed is happy to talk to customers about any type of project, however off-the-wall or however small; and work with your vision to transform an outdoor space to somewhere you want to be – whether it’s an outdoor “room”, a gathering area, or just a place to sit and be spiritually uplifted and experience tranquil and calm. He also offers lawnmowing services, shrub and tree pruning, and the usual landscaping services like decking/fencing, retaining walls, patios and paths, as well as planting, weeding, strimming, outdoor buildings/structures.
