Happy Lancashire Day to all Lancastrians.

Although we share a great rivalry with our northern foes, the rivalry is (mostly) jovial and fun. Whether it be cricket, football, the best beers, the best cheeses, the best music, we could go on!
One thing all true Yorkshire folk and Lancastrian folk agree on is the correct county boundaries!
The imposed Local Government Act 1972 sought to establish new boundaries. These boundaries meant the great towns and cities of Salford, Manchester, Liverpool, Barrow in Furness and many more were to be transferred to new council areas.
Friends of Real Lancashire have fought to have the true county recognised. In 1996 Lancashire Day was first celebrated.
From your friends over the Pennines.

Happy Lancashire Day!

Long live our noble Duke

👻 A Hauntingly Romantic Tale 👻

This Halloween, we met a couple who had just gotten engaged that very day and came back to reminisce about their spooky adventure together they'd had on one of our previous ghostwalks! 💍✨

It’s amazing how sharing a scary experience—especially one filled with laughter and shivers down your spine—can create bonds that last a lifetime. It certainly did for these two!

If you’re looking for a unique way to make memories (or even start a love story), join us on The Original Ghostwalk of York. Who knows? You might leave with more than just goosebumps. 😉

A time to remember.
To all the families who have loved ones who have given their lives to protect our freedom

History is something we cherish, we look to the past for clarification, for sadness, for joy. The stories of those before, make who we are.
Thank you for everything, you'll never be forgotten.

We respect and honour all our veterans and those who were integral to the war effort over the years. There are a number of relatives who served and honoured over the years

Private Thomas & Harry Poole fought in World War 1 - Thomas died 1914. Harry's body still lay with many at Gallipoli. His final letter read "I hope you have a better one than me, because unless we are relieved by then I expect to be in the firing line on Christmas Day." He was killed by a sniper, post battle, 18th December 1915. Buried in Gallipoli.

Harry Graham - was a Bevin Boy, conscripted to ensure coal production was increased to help the war effort. Facing terrible conditions, many died or never recovered from the conditions they faced. Eventually receiving accolation for their service in 1998.

Billy Skillen - served in the British Army, 32nd Heavy Artillery from 1964-1974. Stationed in Germany to ensure peace in the Cold War. An avid sportsman and PTI, even played in the Bundesliga, known as Schwarz Bomber for his signature hair. He later married a beautiful Fraulein and brought her back to England. Where he lay.

Tonight we celebrate a York man - Guy Fawkes!
Each year he is celebrated across the UK and beyond (we were informed by American guests last week)!
Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament on 5th November 1605.
He was of course unsuccessful meeting a most gruesome end!

The above picture is where Guy was born and is today a pub well worth a visit, full of history and mystery!

Join our walk to hear tales of how Guy still haunts York. Dare you burn a Guy on the bonfire?!

Good morning folks.
Thank you for your continued support over the Halloween period.
A reminder, there are 2 walks tonight.
630pm and 8pm. There will be one guide on both, please expect it to be busy
If you do prefer a more intimate walk we run all year round.

Of all the years we have been entertaining guests, this was certainly the busiest and often chaotic we have seen York, both day and night.
We appreciate the patience of our guests as we try to work through the streets on the busy evenings. You are greatly valued and make every night a unique experience for us!

👻 Happy Halloween 🎃

Did you know York is considered one of the most haunted cities in Europe? We haven’t seen any ghosts ourselves, but it’s one of the best places in the UK to get into the spooky spirit at witching hour – or any time of the day or year! Here are our favourite year-round spooky experiences 👇

👻 The The Original Ghostwalk of York combines history and mystery for an evening of delightfully disturbing experiences as you tour the most haunted spots in the city. Tours are £10 adults/£6 child and no need to pre book – just turn up at the meeting point…if you dare…

👹 The York Ghost Merchants are the makers and sellers of the original York Ghosts. They’re the only ghost merchants still trading in the twenty-first century and they offer a truly authentic spooky shopping experience. It’s perfect for picking up a souvenir – but be prepared to queue because they are very popular.

⚰️ York Castle Museum is home to one of the most famous York ghost stories involving mysterious footsteps and a disappearing man. Want to know more? You’ll have to visit for yourself…

⚡ Did you know the Shambles is said to be the inspiration behind Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley? Walking down the narrow cobbled street is like walking through the pages of the storybook. There are a number of Harry Potter shops to browse as well.
